trunk release button - strange alarm

Just in the past week or so the trunk release started acting strange.
With the FOB pocketed and the car locked, I push the button on the trunk... it opens... but when i close it it latches for 1 second then pops again and the car starts emitting a steady tone. Not super loud like an alarm but almost like it's trying to tell me the trunk is not latched. I have to push the door unlock button on the FOB to get it to stop. This will go on repeatedly until I actually open a door at which point the trunk will stay latched.

Seems like something with the security system is wonky. Anyone ever experienced this?

Do you have a spare key in the trunk? The car won't lock until there are no keys in the vehicle.

(sigh) A week ago I walked out of the house with both FOBs. So I stuck the spare in my laptop bag; which I routinely throw in the trunk.

Thanks, man. Saved me a foolish trip to the dealer.

It is one of the coolest features of these cars. My 08 Altima had the same smart key configuration and one day after a round of golf i popped the trunk and threw my golf bag in w my key in the bag. Closed the trunk, but the car wouldn't let me. Without this feature I would have been hosed. Car locked and key in the trunk.
