My best advice is this: the first step in taking charge of a car sales situation is to know exactly what you want. Once you figure that out, step two is knowing everything you can know about the car, more than the salesperson does. Fortunately, you've got time and a car forum available to assist in both of those endeavors.
I agree, through 1 post here I've learned much more about the G37 re: the options and how significant they are versus a week and a half of youtubing, random googling and talking with car sales guys.

No rushing, this weekend I will continue to research.

Thanks all - you all have been very helpful.

Wow, this thread is making the deal I got sound very good at my Infiniti dealer...

You should keep waiting until the right price comes around...I would expect only $24k for a 2010 G37x sedan with Premium and Navigation with 21k miles at a dealer right around now...

I thought I was overpaying for my car too when I negotiated.

You have the best asset on your side: TIME. When not rushed, you can make the best decision possible and get exactly what you want.

I rushed into leasing a Kia Optima SX last year, and after a month I regretted my decision. It was a good car, just too much of a step down after 4 consecutive Infinitis. Luckily my previous Infiniti dealer was able to buy out my lease and get me into a 2012 G37 6MT sedan for the same lease payment as my Optima (VPP discount, crazy incentives, 18 month term, and manuals don't well much in MI).

I got very lucky, just don't want you to make the same mistake.

If you are willing to travel you can do better than this. I ended up getting an 09 Sport last year with 29K miles for $19k. It took a few weeks to find and I had to travel 1100 miles to get it, but it was worth it in the long run.

You did well, rooyboy. Take pride in that effort.

I only had to travel 400 miles for my 6MT. Took the train, LOL.

I've always thought it would be extremely cool to travel for a car purchase. The drive back home would be awesome.

It really was.

Left town before sunrise for a 6 hour train ride to Manhattan, lunch in the city with a friend, and then a quick hop over to New Jersey. About 3 hours messing around at the dealership, then a 6 hour drive back home... just me and my new car.

Pulled the G into my garage around midnight, feeling on top of the world.

That does sound like a fun trip. I've only driven to Dallas (~3 and 1/2 hours there and back) and San Antonio ~1.5 hours for the G, wasn't too exciting with the flat Texas highways unfortunately. I've always told myself if I get a Bmw I'd do the factory delivery in Germany. Get to drive it around on the autobahn and you get a discount on the car that basically pays for your trip there.

That would be amazing.

Over 10 years ago, my friend's wife and her mother did exactly that. She bought a M3 and her mother bought a M5. (And yeah, they were made of money, LOL.) To her credit, she modified the car and tracked it regularly at Watkins Glen. Oddly enough, that marriage didn't last very long.

You know what, I actually have a little picture... here it is. And that was my friend's new Z3 right behind her. This would be 1999, when they coaxed me to join them at an Auto-X event with my new '99 Maxima SE 5MT.

I know this is way off topic, but it's kind of interesting, so what the heck.

There is nothing even remotely close to that around here. You would have to deal down a full 20% from the asking price. CPO journeys with navigation, 2011 with less than 30k are right at $30k list right now in dfw and that is rwd, no sport.

Well, like I said previously, I bought my 2007 Infiniti G35x with premium, navigation, and tech packages with 21k miles in May 2009 for $28k at an Infiniti dealer.

My car was only two years old when I bought it, and my car's price brand new was about the same as the 2013 Infiniti G fully loaded. Right now, I believe a car that's now THREE years old with less packages should be cheaper than my 2 year old car when I bought it.

Btw, mine was just one owner lease, and no accidents.

Miles matter more than years for price from what I have seen (and also for me personally when evaluating). My car was a model year older with about the same miles as yours. Sport package is tough to come by because it is never in the advertised lease deal. I have yet to see an automatic sport in the DFW CPO listings (there is one manual right now 2011, with 23700 for $32,000 list). It could just be the market. No way for me to travel right now...need every drop of vacation and the kids absorb my weekends. I would think the $1000 difference is in the noise of market conditions, etc.

Each reply had great advice that I really considered in this purchase process, TY.

Take your time
Know what you want to gain the upper hand
Get what you want so that you aren't saying I wish I would have
Pricing
Options
Travel

Update: After reading the last couple posts about traveling a little further I opened my search up to 200 miles. Yesterday I drove 3 hrs down to Oregon with my bro in law and picked up a 2010 6mt, 1 owner, 31k miles, no accidents, no mods (not even tinted windows) in black/black for 27k. I got a solid price on my trade which sealed the deal.

I had a grin, ear to ear the entire drive back.

The tech and sport package is sweet! Best of all being back in a manual is undescribeable. Down shifting to 3rd, then 2nd before accelerating hard through the turn is priceless.

The wifey will need to learn how to drive a stick on another car.

I'm so happy with my purchase. Again Ty all for all the great advice, w/o it I may have just settled.

I look forward to being a member on this forum.

Seafoo
