Hoping to buy this weekend

Hi All,

1st time poster, 33 yr old father of 2 that needs a luxury sports car. Looking for some some much needed excitement mixed into my daily family and work life.

The search didn't start out with wanting a luxury sports car, started out with wanting a nice practical 4 door with manaual transmission. Initially I looked at a new or 1-2 yr old TSX but I couldn't find a six spd manual anywhere for 30k out the door. I thought about a new manual 2013 Accord Sport but quickly squashed that idea as my 1st two cars were accords and I really need some new flavor.

This past weekend I had an opportunity to drive two G37 Sedans. The G is sweet. The more and more I reseach the more I feel like it is the car for me and that I have to have one. The only downside is that I can't find one in manual but I'm okay, since my wife was nagging me not to get a manual anway.

There are quite a bit of private and dealer sale G37's in the area. Seems like they aren't moving very fast... not sure why but I feel like when I want something - if i dont move on it, somebody is going to grab it right away!

The two that I drove were, both are from non Infiniti dealerships:

2011 Silver, 1 owner returned on a lease, 27k miles, dealer said he will give it to me for 27,400 before taxes etc. This car does not have Navi.

2009 Black, fully loaded/Navi, 1 owner returned on a lease, 28k miles asking 25,400 before taxes etc. This one does have two very small tears in the door.

I'm torn... would you give up two years in model and navi for 2k? I like the 2010+ bumpers but I think I would change out the 2009 to something else. I'm going to end up lowering both of them.

From my research online it seems like the price points are all over the place. Are these prices in line with what you guys are seeing?

Thanks,

Brent

I know of a 2011 Malbec black g37x sedan at Douglas Infiniti.
Car has 18k miles on it red leather, with navi.its the 7 speed auto, know your looking for stick then again your wife is like mine, she Wong be learning anytime soon.
Don't know the price, but they are in nj.
The previous owner is a friend of mine, who works in sales.
He traded it back early for an ipl coupe, the car is perfect.
Good luck with your g shopping.
Btw, the salesman is doing his job if you thinking about pulling the trigger.
Car won't be here fit long, is the oldest ploy in the world.
Hold out & be persistent, you will find exactly what you want.

I say get the '09, except if you are going auto, I'd hold out for a 37x if you live in the north. Prices seem pretty good to me.

If you want a manual then I would hold out for one. I just did a quick search on cars.com for G37s with manual transmissions under $30k. There are a total of 40 listed as manuals, we know sometimes the wrong information is posted, but I would go on and see if any of those would be worth a little bit of a drive to see if it would be something you'd like, or if you could do without a 6 speed.

Nav IMO is not worth it, I would not have gotten it had it not been required to get the sports package. Typing addresses into the nav is cumbersome and you can't do it while driving. I've used it twice in the year I've owned my car, much easier to just use your phone. Only real benefit (which you won't get on the 09) is the higher resolution screen IMO.

I'd wait it out and get the exact car you want, the sports package is really nice and comes with the 6mt, (can get as an option with 7at). It includes big brakes, sport bumpers/sides, 18" rims, suspension, paddle shifters, sport seats, and a VLSD.

Hold out for a stick if thats what you want. I went with 7at because of my wife and I really don't have any regrets. I was going to get the 6mt in the Z but after many test drives I didn't like the tranny and went with the 7at in it as well. All personal taste and some people complain about the 7at so make sure you really check out both options before buying. You can't go wrong either way.

Both cars you listed are over priced. You should really push for a lower price on either of those. I'd personally go with a 2010+ with Nav and would pay around 27-28 for something with 20-30K miles. The nice thing about the Nav package is that you get the upgraded Bluetooth, ability to play music from your phone over bluetooth, better sound, gps, touchscreen display,....

Also, keep in mind that the G sedan got a facelift and electrical upgrades in 2010. Check autotrader and craigslist for good deals and if you find something cheaper than average, check the car properly as it may have been in accidents or might have mechanical problems.

You're getting very bad deals for your car...I got my 2007 Infiniti G35x AWD with premium, navi, technology, and wood packages with 21k miles in May 2009 for only $28k. I got a solid deal on mine. It was also from a dealer, and they threw in the all weather mats for free. My car is fully loaded except for the sport package, but I didn't like the leg extensions in the seat.

It was a one owner lease, and no accidents reported.

My car was only 2 years old when I purchased it. Are the cars you're looking at X models or not? X models are more expensive than the RWD models.

Also, 5AT transmission is actually better than the 7AT transmission in the 2009+ models, IMO.

Thanks for the insight guys, I am open to all that I can get.

Both are not X models. Neither have reported accidents.

If in good-excellent condition, what do you think I should be able to get them for? How much do you think the dealership is in for them on a lease return. One is a high end MB dealer the other is a Sazuki dealer.

You should be able to get a 2010 model with navigation for around 24k...I would say you should start with that.

Go for a 2010 or newer G sedan with premium, nav, and sport packages, and you will LOVE your car as you have the best of the G sedans and you will be happy for the life of your car. If you get anything less, you're going to like your car but you will always feel like kicking yourself in the butt when you think "if I had only spent x more dollars I could've had..." If it came down to a choice between either the sport package OR the navigation package, go for the Nav package since you can always add on a sport bumper and most of the sport pack items. IMO the touchscreen nav really is the icing on the cake for these cars and gives it that extra luxury feel. Good luck with your decision.

Not to mention, the rearview camera quality on those with the navigation package is significantly better than the rearview camera on the premium package.

I've driven a 2011 G37 loaner with the premium package, and the camera quality is much more pixelated and worse than the Rearview camera on my 2007 G35x. The angle seems narrower too!

Also keep in mind the 09 won't have much warranty left and you'll want a bit of warranty w/ a used car just in case something is amiss once you put some miles on it
Like mentioned, if you don't need AWD be sure to look up the RWD "S" (sport) model, the AWD X"S" is significantly different than the RWD S pkg, the X won't have the bigger Akebono brakes, LSD, etc.

Rule #1: never buy an off-lease. It's generally worse than an one-owner used.

Rule #2: check rule #1.

Rule #3: never prioritize a car because it has Navi. Portables these day are pretty darn good for that purpose. Have you seen what's in the '14? It makes the Navi in the '09 like a toy from stone age if you a gadget lover. But I still don't care.
