Defroster shuts off by itself

Hi All,

first time poster, been browsing this forum before I looked into getting my car. glad I found you guys.

new owner of a 2011 g37x sedan, loving my car so far.. just one problem.

snow is hitting hard now up in Canada so I rely on my defroster to stay on during my commute. It took me some time to get home today but I noticed the defroster would shut off by itself. I took auto climate off and let the heat blow cause I was freezing. Unless its set to a timer I don't get why it would do this.

any ideas?

Thanks!

All of my cars I've had have always shut off after a while. I think it maybe to keep it from burning out. I'm not sure though. There is a reason for it but not completely sure what it may be.

it is supposed to shut off after about 15 mins..
it says on the manual.
and yes, for most cars, it would shut off automatically.
i always thought that it would burn out if it stays on...

I don't think you'll find a single car that is not on a timer these days. Why? Because most people would forget they left it on and the elements will burn-out from excessive use and burn-out even faster if there isn't anything on them to melt.

Yes, heavy falling snow while you are driving is about the only time you ever need to keep it on past the timer period. The rest of the interior of the car should be heated up enough to not require it by then...unless you live in the prairies or some other area with extreme cold. Sometimes that also requires longer use.

They don't design cars and features for the small percentage of people who live in insanely cold areas!
