Please help me solve this

Hi Everyone,

I went out in the middle of a rainstorm tonight, and discovered that all four windows on my two-month old G37x were wide open.

I am - without a doubt - 100% certain that I did not have any windows open when I drove home this evening, and I am 100% certain that noone in my family went out and opened the windows of the car.

So I can't figure out how this could have happened. I immediately thought it was some kind of prank by someone, but how could they get into the car without my key? Even if for some reason the door was unlocked, or they got in some other way, how could they have put the windows down without the key? There is no evidence of any physical damage inside the car (although it's late and I'm tired and upset, so maybe I missed it), so I don't think it was hot wired, and I can't imagine someone would go through that trouble just to open windows as a prank.

Could there have been some kind of electrical glitch? Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Again, I'm certain that I didn't drive home with any windows open, let alone all four windows. Does anyone have any ideas about what could have happened?

You might have accidentally held down the unlock button for a few seconds on your keyfob.

Yup... apparently it must be something like that. I wish I knew about this before. Thanks for the reply.

I never use the remote. It stays in my pocket. I just lock the doors with one press of the button on the outside handle. Same for opening. No problems.

Being able to roll down the windows remotely is a nice feature on a hot summer day, because all you need are the few seconds as you approach the car for the bulk of overheated air to escape. Otherwise, you're just standing there next to you car, dreading getting in.

I was pleasantly surprised that the G rolls all 4 windows down, and all the way, too... which is something my previous car lacked. Ditto on the one-touch for the rear windows. Very nice.

They're simple features, sure, but appreciated nonetheless.

You'll learn a lot reading the owners manual!

I don't know about you guys, but when that keyfob is in my pocket, all sorts of buttons get mashed (uncluding the unlock button being held down opening all the windows, luckily never happened in the rain).

Because of this, the fob rarely resides in my pocket

Yep, remote gets activated unexpectedly on occasion to me, too. Malbecpro, you probably leaned against something just long enough to hold the button down for the extended period to open the windows. I've learned not to have anything else in the pocket with the fob, such as change, and no other keys, to reduce the problem. I also remove the fob from my pocket as soon as I arrive home. There are fob protectors out there that are designed to reduce such problems, but I haven't tried one.

Aw man, you made me Google.

I might actually want one of these. I've lost count of how many times I've accidentally set off the car alarm.

Happens to me all the time, except with the panic button. I had the fob in my pocket with my phone and I was getting out of the car and my alarm started going off... Talk about embarrassing

Just happened to me yesterday morning. Parked my car at work, and just as I was about to get out of the car, the panic alarm went off lol.

Happens to me all the time too. Key fob is in the pocket and accidently gets pressed when sitting down. The car is only a 100 feet from my office during the day. Luckily it hasn't happened during the rain.

Thanks everyone. I read the owner's manual, but probably skimmed over that part! Yes, the problem is that it sits in my pocket with my phone and then if I'm horsing around with the kid or the dogs, I run the risk.

"Best" part of the story... I sent an email to the neighborhood list alerting them to the vandals/pranksters in our neighborhood. I then had to go back and explain when I realized my error. I might have to lay low for a few days, because I'll get laughed out of town...

Thanks for not making fun of me!

Yes, it is a stupid and useless feature that do more harm than good.
