No more 6MT sedans?
No more 6MT sedans?
I heard from a dealer 2012 was the last year Infiniti will make any sport sedans in 6MT, and that from now on only the IPL line will have 6MT's. I haven't seen this anywhere officially so not sure if it's true or not, or how the dealer even knows.
haven't heard that. if true, i guess Infiniti would only lose the 5% of sedan buyers who buy the 6MT (based on rough production estimates. the 6MT sedan is what got me into Infiniti instead of BMW so it would be a shame, but until it is confirmed i'll take it with a grain of salt.
Yea, I really just don't see Infiniti alienating their loyal enthusiast customers like that, especially since we know BMW will continue to offer manuals and that is considered Infiniti #1 competitor. The only thing I can think of is it might have to do with the CAFE regulations, and they have to drop a 6MT model to increase their average fleet MPGs with the newer 8 and 9 speed transmissions. God forbid they put a CVT in any of the sport models (its already in the JX..)
I think the salesman was just trying to push his sale, I was looking at buying a 6MT sedan at a dealership and they are trying to sell it for MSRP stating they will no longer be made so they don't want to give a discount. Either way, no other dealers are doing this so I call BS until I see something official from Infiniti.

Wow, I really hope not also.....Nissan loves their dang CVT transmissions, definitely hope that's not what they are going to! If the IPL was a significant upgrade (IS-F vs. regular), it may be worth the money, I just don't see the benefit for the money!
Car and Driver said this was the last year for the Subaru Legacy 2.5GT, which was the sporty one you could get a 6MT in.....it was my last car, very quick and easy to modify....maybe this is the direction the industry is going

With cars like the new Cadillac ATS and Buick Regal GS etc. offering manuals, along with BMW and Audi (Infiniti's #1 targets) it would be a bad move for them to not have that option.
Yea, I wasn't phased by it at all as there are plenty of other dealers willing to sell one at invoice.
The Maxima competes in a completely different segment with the likes of the Passat / Accord / Camry / Avalon where MPGs are more of the concern.

Yes and no. It's not really a sport sedan..it's a larger family sedan based on a FWD platform and meant to be the Nissan flagship. It appeals to people who want entry level luxury but the size of say the M or a 5 series sedan but can't afford it and don't want the smaller 3 series or a G. I believe it had more of a sport cachet in the 90's and early 2000's before the G sedan really took hold; after that Infiniti has tried to distance itself from Nissan.
