Arrow Buying used G37, need tips

I'm getting ready to buy either a 2009 or 2010 G37 sedan automatic. Are there any typical 'gotcha' things I should look out for. Things like typical items that break.

I've found like 4-5 2009 and 2010 G37s in the 18,000 mile range which I was surprised about. That's the typical mileage I'm looking at right now. Moonroof is a definitely preference.

Also, if you have any references or links I should look at that tell me the differences between packages like journey, x, etc and also typical upgrade packages. I've noticed some have back up cameras, nav systems, bose, others not.

Thanks.

Well here's a link to the car packages, don't know if the prices are up to date though. --> 2008 Infiniti G37 Packages & Options at Automobile Magazine it says 2008 but I'm pretty sure it's almost the same for 2009/2010 (maybe )

Great! That was helpful and I found the 2009s too. Now is there anything I should inspect specifically when buying one of these used?

about the only thing i'd check for is the transmission. Some owners 2009-2011 complain about the 7at shifting harshly. There are updates available to help fix some of the issues, but supposedly no "real solution" yet. Just make sure you can live with it and ask the dealer to perform the latest ISB flash for the tranny.

Here a couple of notes I wish I thought about before I got my 2009 G37 auto sedan.
in no order just as I think of them.

1) 7at shifting issues (although i haven't had the problem)
2) cup holder breaks easily (dealership replaced it without issues)
3) g37 doesn't come with auto dimming rear mirror (WTF?!)
4) 2010 is the re-design if you could afford both I would get the 2010 for the new front end
5) the bose system is crap
6) personally i wish i wanted for a 6-speed

That's a quick 30 sec list if i think of more i'll update.

Good list although I believe the autodimming mirror is part of the premium pkg. I think mine auto dims.
One other thing, Infiniti paint is horribly fragile, if you can find a car that has a clear bra installed that's a bonus.

I heard the same statement on about every new cars made in the last few years, MB, BMW, you name it. The thing is that if you want to point fingers, blame it on EPA.

Same thing coming from the Toyota Tundra forums, everyone complains because paint is no longer lead/chemical based like the old days.

Sadly I have a few rock chips after only 3 months, but honestly the paint has held up well, it's the soft plastic of the front bumper that gets dented. Paint stuck in the ding, but the plastic is indented.

Man! You just had to go and point out the front end change. Now I'm poisoned for a 2010+.

Depends what package you get, I have auto dimming rear mirror on mine.

To each his own, I like the bose.

The BOSE is good enough for me as well.

Other issues:
1. Excessive wear on leather seats
2. Excessive wear on buttons on the steering wheel
3. Brake judder/vibration

Kind of a maybe stupid question: There shouldn't be any reason the mfg warranty isn't honored, right? I'm looking at 2009 18,000mile G37 Journey with moonroof. I believe it has a 4yr/60,000 basic and 6yr/70,000 drivetrain. Carfax says no crash, 1 commercial owner.

I'm also having a third party inspection place off the Internet go do an inspection for about $120ish. I was looking at inspectmyride.com but if you guys have another suggestion I'm all ears.

Another weird question - what's the difference between a sunroof and moonroof?

I like the Bose as well. I think it is very neutral and natural sounding. If you like the exaggerated unnatural bass that is liked by many these days install a sub and amp. Try a car with and without nav. Personally I think the nav radio has one of the most elegant screens I've seen. Whereas i feel the interface on the non-nav looks cheap. Sport seats are awesome.
