Need help from 6MT Sedan Owners

I want to remove the shifter boot. So far all I can do is unclip the boot housing by grasping down into the lip of both sides and pulling upward. That's the easy part.

I assume at this point I'd have to slip vise grips under the boot to clamp on the shifter post, while turning the **** counter-clockwise in order to take the **** off. Can someone confirm that, please?

But then what? The console edge seems attached or otherwise clipped into the face of the center console. How does that detach?

[edit]

Page IP24 in the FSM. Reading now, but advice is still welcome.

[edit]

Figured out how to pull the console finisher loose, but I'm stuck at this point trying to loosen the shifter ****, and don't have the proper pliers for this work. Damn.

a lot of people have ruined their oem **** trying to remove it because of the factory lock-tite. I think there were some threads on removing it, I got lucky since it seemed like mine was just hand-tightened.

You are lucky. I had a set of vise-grips on the shaft, and a large wrench over the **** wrapped up in cloth to avoid exactly that. It still wouldn't budge, and now there are some gouge marks on both sides of the ****. It's not at all bad, barely noticeable... but it's there, and I did it to myself.

Well, damn. I suppose when I go back to INFINITI for the winter tire swap, I'll see if they can loosen it for me. Until then, I'm SOL.

I tried removing mine as well. I used cloth wrapped vice grips on the shaft and one of these on the ****. I snapped the strap and returned it to the store.
That sucker (shift ****) isn't coming off.

All I want to do is get the boot off, so I can follow the factory stitching with some white embroidery. Redpit did that recently with red-on-black. It looks like a simple and appealing little mod... except that I can't get the damn **** off.

(sigh)

I know this is a kind of drivetrain question, but it's specific to 6MT's. One thing I notice is a fair amount of "rollover" noise ... when the you let the clutch out with the transmission in neutral, noise of the input shaft and bearings in the transmission. Is this common for the 6MT, or do I have an issue cropping up?

I found out today that they are opening an infinity dealer about 25 miles south of here ... not next door, but a whole lot better than 75 miles away in south Denver!

I've noticed this as well and think it is normal but I am having syncro issues and having the transmission replaced under warranty.

I notice clutch "chatter" sometimes simply putting the clutch in out of gear and then releasing will make it happen. I've chalked it up to being a terrible clutch/trans - main complaint about the car

My clutch doesn't chatter ... at least not yet. I hate that ... had a lot of problems when I used to drive 5.0 Mustangs. Can be a lot of things .. oil on the friction surfaces, a bad release bearing. Warping or slop anywhere in the clutch system.

I put an RJM clutch pedal on mine ... I think everything will last longer just because I'm smoother with the clutch. One negative is that I would not trust Infiniti to honor the warranty on anything in the clutch system ... so I have saved the original pedal to re-install if I need warranty service.

The shift ***** are lock tighted on there. You are really going to have to yank it off and a lot of the time it ends up damaging the ****.

Yeah, it won't come loose. I'm done, unless I can get the dealer's service dept to loosen it for me. Bummer.

I noticed the same exact issue , it happens every now and then when I let the clutch out with the transmission in neutral.... it makes me worried.... the car has only 13k miles -_- should I take it to the dealer and see what they say? if it's a common issue maybe they do fix it under warranty?

Mine does the same thing, took it into the dealer they had no idea since they so infrequently deal with 6mt cars. I had better luck talking to the nissan service techs when i had my moms murano in there for an oil change. that is just how are trannys sounds.
