MT/RT/CD are kind of mags who only care about newly redesigned or brand new designed cars. If you paid attention, they barely mention any models that were into its third year. If you bought your cars instead of lease, you would care more about what CR has to say, reliability plays a big role in their ratings.
I was just reading that CR report. I find it interesting although I take what CR and for that matter all the mags say with a grain of salt. You have to sift through what they say to figure out what in their reports/articles pretain to you.
That being said I like the fact that they like the G. But it sounded like they chose the Sonata because the Altima is up for a redsign? I did not understand that.

"In the auto industry, Consumer Reports magazine is regarded as the single most influential publication among car shoppers. The magazine buys all the vehicles it tests and it accepts no advertising in order to prevent any outside influence on its ratings.
To earn a Consumer Reports' "Top Pick" a vehicle must have the highest performance test scores while also exhibiting at least average reliability and good safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety."
MT/CD/RT all take advertising money... he who pays most is certainly the favorite.

They should remove all Brand badging from a vehicle before evaluations and see what the outcomes are. It's proven that if people don't know the manufacturer, opinions can change dramatically.
This is true of CR's methods but it still relies on people (staff) to make the vehicle evaluations. People can and will have preconceived opinions about a brand and therefore will go into the evaluation phase seeking problems or praises depending on their own personal preferences. It's human nature.
