bird poop on hood won't come off!

Hello,
I hate birds. Recently, a bird - I think it was a crow, pooped on my car (hood). It left two large marks. However, I did not take care of it immediately. Instead it took a few days before I got my lazy *** out to clean the car. Now when I washed the car, it seemed that the poop was all gone however... when I drove it into the garage and examined closely, there were two very large, very noticible etching of the bird poop. It looks like a ghost image of the poop in 2D that was left behind. It seems to have adhered "permanently" onto the clearcoat - I have gray paint. I have used meguire scratch x, some wax cleaners, etc all to no avail. There remains a cloudy, smooth, opaque, etching left by these birds. Does anyone have similar problems and how did you remove these marks? Thanks for your help.

Go to the detailing forum. Search for bird poop.

Not to preach but how could you wait a few days to wipe off 2 big bird droppings from your somewhat new car which would have took all of 5 minutes. Don't know why you're pissed now because those huge droppings didn't seem to bother you then so why should the etching now. I'm **** about my car's appearance and I can't even imagine letting it sit there for a few days, a few minutes makes me nervous.

Put a microfibre towel in your trunk with some spray (put some diluted Blue Dawn in a spray bottle if you have to) and next time you see some bird **** the stuff is right in the trunk, you can't be that lazy.

Sometimes spraying it and wiping with a microfiber cloth can scratch the surface a little since bird poop seems to harden faster than cement, and the spray doesnt always soften it up too fast. I use Goof Off as soon as i get home and it comes right off. Never let is sit for too long though.

I've always found that bird poop can be taken off without much effort by soaking it in detailing spray and taking it off with a micro fiber towel. Keeping a piece of detailing clay in the trunk too comes in handy if you still feel or see anything left after the spray. The whole problem can really be avoided by getting on the problem right away. Just my .02.

So, after the lesson learned, you still need to take care of your etching problem. A good detailer can take it down to almost unnoticeable, or you can do it yourself. One suggestion: Google up Todd Coopenrider's article on M105/M205 paint correction at DetailedImage. You'll have to buy a Porter Cable 7424 or similar to get good results, but it's a great unit you can use for a long time. I got one for my G, but now get "Did you just get that repainted?" remarks on my 20 year old F150 pickup.
