dealer loaner

hi guys, i'm taking my car for some body damage to be fixed and their body shop said that it will take about 8 days to get everything fixed.
the thing is, they won't give me a loaner while my car is in the shop. also, i don't have rental on my insurance.

is there any way i can convince the dealer to give me a loaner?

this is the damage

I've never heard of a dealer giving loaners for body work. I'm sure some do, but it would be a very small percentage of dealership body shops that do.

Probably the reason for that is while the dealer is making a killing doing mechanical work at $100-$120/hr, the body shop's labor rate in many areas is $40-50/hr so the killer profit just isn't there like it is in the mechanical shop.

BTW: Are they going to "save" that quarter and repair it or replace that quarter with a new quarter panel?

doubt it. did you already make a claim on your insurance? if not, perhaps you should wait. Add rental coverage. then do the repair work later. Rental coverage is, on average, about $5 more per month. Why anyone wouldn't get that is beyond me.

Can that damage can be fixed using paint-less dent removal (Cant tell if the paint is not broken)? That kind of fix takes about an hour if so. Most impression dents on fenders can be fixed using the paintless method... It even pays for them to try to fix it the paintless method as the cost is under $200 for most repairs (even less for smaller fixes)...

Also 8 days is crazy high for that kind of damage. My BMW coupe was damaged in a hail storm. Hood Replaced, Roof cut out and replaced, Trunk replaced. Doors fixed, panels fixed (bondo, paintless, etc. etc.) and entire car repainted in about 8 days start to finish.

How much are the quoting you?

PS - getting loaner would only happen if you have it under insurance. If not your SOL.

^ I agree with you, it looks like they should be able to push/pull that out.
8 days seems ridiculous. Ask them how long the work takes and narrow it down to specific time frame. It seems to me they want the car to sit around so they can deal with it at their convenience more than yours.

My dealer would give me a loaner for any work THEY do. Most dealers don't do body work, but will recommend a shop to do it.

I can't see them agreeing to give you a loaner, unless they caused that body damage.

I can usually get a loaner from my dealership just for an oil change.

i've had positive experiences with my dealer - maybe leave the car with the dealership to take care of the damage? they'll more than likely give you a loaner then. the down side - you don't get to choose the shop the car gets taken to.

Why anyone with your three cars would ever stomach a rental is beyond me.

I don't pay for rental insurance because Ol' Blue, the twenty year old pickup, does fine in a pinch.

My insurance quoted $1200 for the repair and they are just fixing the panel. My deductible is $500 so I pay $500 and the insurance pays $700.
