The G37 was the least ugly lux sport momma's car that didn't crawl down the road. A little here and there, well ok a lot here and there and it's bareable now.

My short list was Acura TLS 2008, IS350, and G37. I picked the G because it has RWD, more interior space than the IS. They're all great cars IMO.

Though my next car will likely be the all new Lexus IS. I just have to wait and see how it looks hah.

If you're cross shopping by price (which is the limiting factor for MOST people) then you cannot really think BMW 335i unless you don't mind a stripper.

Price comparable for sedans:

MB C300 Sport (a comparably equipped C350 is too expensive for cross-shopping)
Lexus IS 250/350 (waste of money if you ask me)
BMW 328i (a comparably equipped 335i is too expensive to directly compare to a well equipped G37)
Acura TL (ugly car, though you can get a great deal on a decent car)
Audi A4 (a fashion car through and through)

So what you get with the Infiniti (compared to the German brands) is a much more powerful motor but with slightly less refinement. No matter what anyone tells you, you have to judge for yourself. In my opinion, the German brands all have the Infiniti beat on general quality, fit n finish, and materials quality. But for the price, you can't get anything faster in a manual transmission. It's all about what you want and what you can live with.

LOL really? Why didn't you buy the IS-F? or the M3? or the C63? If you can afford a $65k+ car, those cars are worth the extra coin over the G37x fully loaded.

My pre-requisites were a sport sedan with RWD and a MT. So I cross-shopped the following:

BMW 335i
Subaru Impreza STI
Mitsubishi EVO X
Pontiac G8 GXP
Infiniti G37 Sedan

The G was last on my list before I started test driving the cars; at the end It offered the most refinement/performance/luxury for the buck.

When i went car shopping my top picks were the 2010 Maxima, IS350, C350, 328i, and of course the g37. Quickly narrowed it down to the Maxima and the G37. The Maxima fully equipped has a few more features than the g37( Panoramic moon roof, Climate Controlled drivers seat, Auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors, Led mirror signals, Auto reverse tilt down mirrors , rear sunshade, and the list goes on). But the G won hands down in performance. The CVT really killed the Maxima in my eyes, felt like i was driving a car made for a Grandma. One test drive of the g was all it took, Purchased the car the same day.

Agree w/ just about everything in your post except general quality~everything in German cars feels more substantial such as the *****, buttons, levers, wood, leather, paint, even the "thud" of the doors. But reliability is a very large part of "general" quality and the German brands compared to Inifiniti & other Japanese brands (and Hyundai) seem to be doing much worse in the reliability department. Also factoring in the high repair costs when any German car requires service or repairs is another important thing to consider when cross shopping these particular cars.
Like I mentioned, I'd definitely be considering a CPO Audi S5 as long as the CPO has a decent warranty. Love German cars, but they can be nerve-wracking & not always easy keeping them on the road

For my my list was a little narrow already since I wanted all-wheel drive

Audi A4 3.2quatto (2009 was the last year of it)
MB C300 4matic
Caddilac CTS (GM discount) only reason this was falling in my price range
Taurus SHO (Ford Discount but still expensive and would have had to manage a rental for 2 months)
Infiniti G37xS

I was coming from a Volvo S60R so I wanted something at least as quick as the S60R. The only car that lived up to what I was looking for and that wasn't crazy expensive was the G.

I owned 2 BMWs. I was always interested in the G. I was close to buying a 335 but believe it, my Infiniti dealership gave me more on my BMW trade then BMW plus they were up front with me on everything. Plus, $8k less on price over 335i. Didn't care for the high repairs, put a new a/c in during the summer and it was right at a grand! So hopefully, repairs are cheaper on the G coupe. I bought the 8 yr 120k warranty on my 08
