Depends... Do you care about swirls or not? If you don't, then yeah. If you do, then you better do your detailing yourself.

a wash to clean all the dirt off and a quick wax to give the paint a month of protection is fine.

I'd guess that 95% or more of the general public just bring their car to a car wash to get it clean. And of those 95%, probably half of them even bother to wax it. So yeah, you'll be fine...but if you want your car to look its best, you'll have to hand wash it carefully to avoid swirls. An automated car wash will get most of the dirt off, but it's not very gentle on your car's paint. So it's all up to you...

No way am I ever going to pay someone $15 who's going to wash my car with the same towel/rag/shirt that he just used to wash someone else's dirty azz car right before mine. All the crap he just got off of someone else's car thats stuck on the towel will end up ruining your paint. Then he'll use the same towel/rag/shirt that he just used on someone else's car to dry it up and ruin the paint even more. Don't believe me? Go check your paint in direct sunlight

Oh but I'm sure he has a hand wax/sealant that he'll apply on it that he'll charge you $50 to cover those swirls right up for a couple weeks or so

Then he'll come back in a couple weeks and wash it the same way he did before. And a month later you'll be getting another wax. Its a circle that will never end.

All good tho, its convenient and its your money and paint, not mine I wash/detail all of my family members cars so this doesnt happen to them. Just sucks that some so called "detailers" work that way and people are willing to pay it.

/rant.

yes a major rant!!!

actually guy uses fresh towels and soap mits. Washes the mitts after each use or grabs another one from his clean rack. I saw a whole bunch of towels in the back of the trailer, nicely folded and separated from the dirty ones.

I take pride in washing my own vehicle but lately, I've gotten away from it. And my G was in need of a wash. My G is BLACK and SWIRL FREE. and so is the wifes black BMW.

I agree there are some detailers out there that do what you've said. Thats why I use nothing but Detailed Image stuff that's recommended for my car.

as others have said, a wash (preferably by hand) and wax is better than nothing. but prepping the paint surface before waxing is best. at least a one-step polish goes a long way. the level of paint prep depends on how much you care i suppose.
