Question about re-programming auto unlock
Question about re-programming auto unlock
I had my '09 Journey in to the local dealer for an oil change last week. I had read on this forum that it was possible to re-program the auto door unlock feature. The factory setting has the doors unlock when the engine is turned off. I want it to unlock when placed in Park. My service advisor checked the service manual, and found the 5 step procedure to do so.
Unfortunately, the guys doing the work could not get it to accept the change. My advisor said they would research, and have me come back in later. After I left, I discovered that now the doors will not unlock even when the engine is shut off! I have to use the unlock button on the door...anyone here have any information I might be able to pass on to the dealer in order to make this work? Thanks...

As far as I know, you can't unlock the doors when placing in Park, but you can activate/deactivate the automatic lock/unlock function; personally, I find it safer to keep the doors unlocked when I shut off the car; anyways, in the 2009 owner's manual, page 3-6, you will find the detailed instructions. My salesperson, sales manager, and service advisor did not know about this and thought you could change it via the personal options in the dash.
From the service manual:
The service manual implies that use of a Consult-III is required to change these.
Automatic door unlock function mode can be selected from the following in the mode.
• MODE 1: All doors are unlocked when the power supply position is changed from ON to OFF
• MODE 2*: All doors are unlocked when shifting the selector lever from any position other than
the P to P position
• MODE 3: Driver side door is unlocked when the power supply position is changed from ON to
OFF
• MODE 4*: Driver side door is unlocked when shifting the selector lever from any position other
than the P to P position
• MODE 1: All doors are unlocked when the power supply position is changed from ON to OFF

This is why I wish Nissan would donate a loaner Consult III
Ive mentioned it before: Auto Enginuity (AutoEnginuity® - OBD2 Scan Tool - Professional PC and PDA Diagnostics) makes a data logger/scanner that can be extended to edit some of the parameters in the body control module (i.e. what controls the auto lock feature, etc).
I think you can pick up the scanner/logger and the enhanced Infiniti/Nissan interface for about 350 or so. Its not the cheapest scanner/logger, but it surely isnt as expensive as a Consult III.
You can also try another dealer, Ive read that some charge for the time and some dont. If they charge you 30 mins of labor thats probably 50 or 60 bux which isnt too bad if you just need one change (or if you want multiple changes that they can do within the half hour) but anything over that Id start trying a different dealer or perhaps just live with it.
There arent many parameters in the service manual that arent changeable by the Comfort and Convenience settings of the Nav setup in my 2011. Not sure how things change with non-NAV, or years other than 2011.

oh.. damn
I think the 2009 is different than the 2010... the 2009 is more 2008 than it is 2010.
i actually remember asking my dealership to give me my unlock options... but when they plugged in the consultIII they only got on or off.
