Quick Oil Change Question.

I'm over 400 miles due for a oil change. I can either get an oil change from dealer for 39.95 + tax or I can buy Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil for about 31.99 with free oil filter and pay another 15 dollars to my local repair shop to change it(drain old oil, put new one in, change oil filter). The money isn't a big difference. So would you suggest regular oil change or synthetic oil change? If you know, whats the difference between the two?
I want to get it changed this weekend, I have a very busy schedule so its either this weekend or put off till next weekend.
Btw, dealer is charging $90 for synthetic oil...

I would go with Synthetic at the local place. Syn is just better oil to begin with. just google search it. Just remember to keep you receipts when having it done else where.

The main difference without going into details, synthetic oil allow you to go many more miles before oil change compare to regular oil.
Many folks use regular oil just fine. I think this is preference among drives which oil they want to use.

I would suggest you use synthetic oil change.
Holy cow, $90 ... even ester oil is not this expensive. They must be using AMSOIL Synthetic oil...
Dude take it to local shop..

$90 is with labor i'm sure. my audi dealer used to charge between $70 - $90 for synthetic oil changes, which is required on the Audi.

If you trust the local place do it. Just keep your receipts and have the place note the mileage, just in case you need to have warranty work done at the dealership.

Changing oil is very simple. Just bring it to a local shop & save some money.

Do you want to change your oil every 3750 miles or do you want to go longer? If you want to do it at 3750 get the regular dino oil at the dealer. If you want to go longer get something else. I would suggest you not get Mobil1 though. There have been a number of people that have had bad results with it in the G37, myself included. I had two done, both with less than stellar results.

Well I'll be buying the oil myself from autozone and then give it to the repair guy to change it for me... So will the autozone receipt alone do it or do i have to get a receipt for like 10 dollars from the dealer too? I can always say i changed it myself. Would you guys recommend using the mobil 1 oil filters or oem filters?

You can ask the repair guy/shop for a receipt.
I use Bosch premium oil filter. Cheaper than Mobil 1 but still very high quality.

Mobil1 filters are better than oem, so are the Bosch, Wix, PureOne filters.

Keep all the receipts. You'll have the burden of proof if you need to have any work done at the stealership...dealership.

Can't go wrong with the Purolator PureOne. Part #14612 matches OEM size perfectly.

As for choice of oil, the only thing I'd stay away from is Nissan Ester oil. Personally, Mobil 1 is not my choice although a lot of people use it.
