Another Tanabe customer...(UPDATE W/VIDEO)

6/19/2011 - UPDATE and VIDEO: the exhaust is broken in well and sounds excellent. Typical deep, VQ sound that all of the aftermarket exhausts seem to replicate. I'm satisfied.

YouTube - ‪2009 G37S Sedan Tanabe Exhaust‬‏

I had my mind set on buying the Stillen, but at the end of day, I couldn’t justify the cost. I’m only interested in sound improvement and the Tanabe exhaust does the job! I always thought the exhaust tips were a little too big on the Tanabe (and I still do), but they are growing on me. The OEM sedan tips actually measure 4.5” across, but not vertically because they are oval. The Tanabe tips measure 4.5” in diameter so it’s not that big of a deal. The tips sit perfectly flush with the rear bumper trim.

This is the forth aftermarket exhaust I’ve purchased in my lifetime and beats all the others in quality and fitment. The sound has a nice tone, but very mild. It sounds wonderful between 3500 and 5000 rpms, but I can barely tell it’s there at start up, idle or highway cruising. I can’t imagine anyone complaining that this exhaust is too loud. This motor really sounds nice under part and full throttle. Too bad Infiniti keep the sweet sound hidden on the sedans.

I think I might go the same route as you. I've had my eyes on the FI system, but I really can't justify the cost when all I want is more sound. The more I hear and read about the Tanabe, the more I think that's what I'll end up with. I heard they will have their Y-pipe available soon, and I can always add that later if I want to let her breath a little better.

BTW, where are the pics? We all know that no pics = it didn't happen

UPDATE: I added some photos and I think the exhaust has become slightly louder and deeper, but still very mild.

I've never been a fan of the large tips of the tanabes, but they fit your car very well. Not sure if its the color or you're just a photo pro, but that looks real good.

Thanks. I have to say, I did mess with the fitment a little last night. I adjusted the rear exhaust hangers to pull the tips tighter against the exhaust outlets. Tanabe sets them up to hang a little too low for my taste. I think my adjustments made a big difference.

Welcome to the Tanabe family I have had them on my sedan for over a month they do look great and kept breaking in and getting deeper the y pipe is already out from Tanabe the midpipe is what everyone's is waiting for I think I'm gonna go with Berk or kinetix hfc and r2c intake to complete sound ... you have any other plans for ur car?

No, I don’t have any other plans. The only other modification I have is set of 18” winter wheels and tires. Summer tires and RWD is a bad combination in the winter. The winter wheels/tires transformed my car - big time difference in safety and performance.

I think this car is pretty much tapped on power. None of the NA power mods. add enough to notice any real gain from the seat of your pants. I’m sure some of them free up a small amount of horsepower, but for the cost, I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s the very reason I didn’t go with a full exhaust (minor gains, high cost). You may want to reconsider an aftermarket intake. The OEM intake design is well engineered. Good luck with your car!

Did you do the install yourself? If so, how difficult was it?

I did it by myself and it's easy! It's another reason I didn't bother with a full exhaust. If you have ramps or can jack up the car a bit, it helps, but I suppose you could do it without raising the car. The hardest part was getting the bolts loose and the exhaust hangers off the OEM exhaust. Some penetrating oil helps.

another good exhaust and low priced, is the Invidia Gemini Exhaust. Its only 200 more and its a full exhaust system that performs very well, and not loud.

Im iffy between the two right now.

I've been wanting to get the Tanabe mufflers but the Tanabe site says its not available for 09+ G37 Sedans. Did you buy the one for the 06-08 G35 Sedan? If so, is the diameter of the pipe the same as the 09+ G37?

Well, you inspired me to finally pull the trigger on an exhaust. Just ordered the Tanabe. It's backordered so I won't get it for 2-3 weeks. Can't wait.

And yes, '07/'08 exhaust fits '09/'10 models.
