Small dent - aluminum trim

Hi all,

I searched for this and didn't find a resolution. I have a very small dent on the aluminum trim around the shifter bezel. Has anyone replaced this part? I'm trying to figure out whether I should live with this or replace it, which will depending largely on the price.

I'm a little surprised at how easily it dented. I dropped my cell phone from 1" or so above the trim piece (accidentally), and found the small (2-3 mm) dent after picking it up.

Ah well...

My wife accidentally swung a plastic bag containing a piece of sample tile for our remodelling project into the trim on the passenger side door and both dented AND scraped off a line of aluminum on the trim.

I was really disappointed in how easily that happened, especially since the tile didn't tear through the plastic bag.

Oh well, such is life

I dropped my cell phone on my 08 gear shifter and dented it within the first few days I owned the car. Just the little aluminum piece at the top of the shifter. Bothered me every time I looked at the damn thing!! That middle shifter piece aluminum and cell phones are not a good match! Maybe the cord coming out of the right side of the center console instead of the front will help - it may pull the phone toward the passenger seat instead of onto the aluminum trim.

Just got my 2010 and I see a small scratch on the same piece on top of the shifter. I'm 99.99% sure it was there when I picked up the car but I've had it for a month now and I'm not thinking they'll take ownership of it. I guess we'll see.

Not sure that helps at all but just wanted to let you know you're not alone!

Thanks for the great info. If it's that expensive, I'm just going to write it off as a "character mark" and point to the damage when people ask if it's real aluminum.

Suggest checking with a body shop or individual who does "paintless dent repair"
There is also a nationally franchised company called "Dr Vinyl" that specialize
in doing these kinds of repairs for dealerships and individuals and will "come
to you." Good luck.
