Cool New to this website. just bought a 2009 g37. had a few questions

Ok so I used to own an audi a4 and some idiot ran a red light and t-boned me and almost killed me.. so anyway, now i just bought a used 2009 g37 journey with 14500 miles on it.. The only downside is that it was a rentacar from hertz. I got a great deal on it though.. Carfax said it had 9 miles on it 3/29/09 so i figured shiit, the car is practically brand new. I even got them to put the 18 inch sport wheel package from a used 08 that they had there. It is the premium package.. it has everything but nav. I got the car for $24,900.. walked out the door after taxes and everything paying $27,300.. So my first question is this, Do yous think i got a good price? and another question is how high do yall think it is ok to get the rpms up to starting from a red light? for instance the other day, i burnt this cheezy yellow bmw and the g37 got up to like 4500 rpms real quick with a pretty riculous accelration feeling.. The car is a beast, it is definitely much better than an audi.. I mean do yous think that is too high to get the rpms? And should i be doing something like that in the Sport Automatic Mode .i think the red line is at like 7500. I mean, im not gonna beat it up i just wanted to see what kind of power this thing had.. haha my a4 was a 1.8 T .. not really comparable to this baby.

First, I think you got a great price for your G37. Second, do yourself a favor and take it to a racetrack. Street racing is for idiots and the track is where you should be blowing off BMWs.

Sounds like a good price to me, especially if it had only 9 miles on it!

Street racing... yuck!

Read the manual, as far as break-in.

dont be an idiot by racing on the streets, take it to the track!

As far as reving up to 4500rpms, no big deal at all.

Good price unless it was driven how I drive rentals....lol.

No talking about street racing...er um I mean no street racing.

It has a rev limiter. You will know when you hit it.

I rented a 09 G37 last year before I decided to buy one. I certainly wouldn't want the one I rented. I didn't do anything reckless with it, but it was driven HARD for two days.

Assume that the car was driven hard, absolute minimum maintenance was performed, and various trim pieces were probably replaced that were scratched and otherwise abused.

It's never a good idea to buy a car that was a rental.

My friend rented an Audi TT 3.2 once and drove her for around 600 miles in a day and a half, those consisted of a canyon run, a track day and an autocross.. get the picture?

Since he already bought the car, there's no need for any advice about whether he should buy a rental or not. Congrats on your purchase! I'm sure it's still warrantied and you'll likely have few problems.

I drive the manual transmission and regularly go up to 5,000 to 6,000 RPM, especially in 2nd & 3rd gear. Of course, by that time, it's likely already at about 60mph so there's not much farther to go from there on the road.

This is a high-revving engine; it really shines when you get it up above 3K. The torque band really starts around the 2500 range, and I think the spec'ed max HP is somewhere around 5200. So the car and engine is begging to be driven that way.

The redline is there to tell you what the danger zone is -- but normally the rev limiter will keep you out of there. Anything below that isn't going to hurt the car. Exception is I do keep the rpms low when I first start the car until it reaches operating temperature.

hey thanks shadowman and everybody else for your advice and input..the g37 sedan is a bad *** car. I was certainly skeptical about buying a rental but i figured the price was right and i still have 3 years 45000 miles left on the manufacturer warranty. So what the heck, I bought and i love it.. just to clear things up, I dont street race like a dummy but i figured it was a good time to test out what she had under her dress.. Still cant believe im riding around in this beautiful car.the inside is really nice and stylish too. Those god damn japs really know how to make a car.
