first road trip - 2009 sedan

Took my first longer road trip on Saturday. Quick trip up and back from San Jose to Sacramento for a school basketball game in the CIF Norcal finals (we lost )

total 260 miles or so. 95% or more highway driving. Me and two teenage girls...

Anyway - the car was a pleasure to drive and the freeway manners are superb. I like the seats - not quite as good as the BMW's or Audi's I have owned or currently own, but pretty close. Overall a very good experience. And the kicker is I got 28mpg indicated for the trip with an average speed around 64 for the entire trip. That is quite impressive for a sports sedan with a 328hp engine!!

Oh - I should have been more clear - it was my daughter and her friend...

Anyway - not sure how acurate the read-out is, but even if close that is pretty damn good highway mileage for a car with so much power!!

What about city economy? I have a 2010X with 500 miles on it and no matter how i drive i seem to be wasting a lot of gas. Even when i take it easy i cant seem to do better than 13 mpg. Once the car is broken in, will it get better?

I took mine from Dallas to Hot Springs AR and back a couple of weekends ago and also enjoyed it.

One observation - if you hold down the accelerate button on the cruise control, it will go to 90 and then stop accelerating.

purely city driving seems to return 18-19mpg for us. Which has not changed much from when it was new. Have 5K miles on it now, so not fully broken in but getting there.

18-19mpg sounds very impressive. Wonder why I seem to waste so much more. Both times I gassed up, a full tank lasted me around 220 mi. I never expected this car to be fuel efficient, but I didn't expect V8/V10 economy either.

On my trip from DC to Boston, I average around 370 a tank on the highway doing 80 without cruise control. 09 G37xS 7AT Stock no mods. I've hit 400 once though I think that MAY be a fluke. I'm heading to Philly this weekend so I'll see how it fairs out!

Usually on my drive to Chicago I will get about 400 - 420 miles on a tank on the freeway. Driving between 70 - 80 mph the whole time.

What brand and grade of fuel are you using?

Mine's a non-X, but I get about 15mpg in pure city driving. So, given the fact that yours has AWD, 13/14 would be normal.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I guess +90mph isn't "cruising" anymore, haha

Most of my car is 80% city and 20% highway, looking at the trip computer averaging about 16.5 with 91 octane with X. Better than the 14 I got when breaking in lol

Wow... getting 400 mi on a tank on highway would be nice. I use 93 Octane and gas prices are rising. I hope fuel consumption will improve with some miles, otherwise it's gonna be an expensive summer.

You can use 91 octane or higher. Some places like CA don't sell 93 octane.

I've averaged about 19 mpg over the last 2 tanks with mostly city driving. For me, I mostly use Shell V-power. For whatever reason, the G just seems to like Shell better.
