Are you idling much? There's got to me something going on there. I'm getting 18 in the city and about 16-17 if I'm romping on it here and there.

Reset your in-dash calculator and get back to us in a few days. Try not to idle at all, except at lights. Are you in NYC or LA?

What kind of MPG were you getting with other brands of fuel?

I reset the calculator all the time, and It never showed me more than 13. One time I got 18, but that doesn't count because I never went past 1,500 rpm, the car was practically rolling. Idling might be an issue, I live in NYC

I'm pretty excited I'll be taking my 2009 G37x sedan on a road trip from Seattle to Palm Springs in late April.

Don't go by the computer. Figure out the MPG in your head, or with a calculator. It's not that hard, guys... lol

Besides, it'd be interesting to compare results, to see just how accurate the trip computer really is, no?

I think that idling is probably the biggest contributor to low mileage for those that get really bad mileage.

Seems the EPA city cycle is maybe slightly optimistic for real-world, but the highway may be slightly pessimistic. A big V6 is not going to get great city mpg especially with a lot of idle time. That much is obvious. But I have owned many V8 sedans with less power than the G37 that were lucky to get much over 20mpg on the highway, so the G is doing pretty good in that dept.

My S4 gets 16-17 around town but only 21-22 on the highway, so the gap between it and the G37 is pretty minor in city driving but more dramatic on the highway.

The new 2010 S4's get 18/28. The G is kinda abysmal when it comes to fuel consumption. I'd much rather be driving a C63 and getting 13-14mpg in the city than the 15-16 I'm getting in my G.

Any one did the calculation manually? How accurate is the trip computer compared to your result?

The computer isn't 100% accurate but close enough (withing 1mpg).

from my perspective the G gets great mpg. A sedan with 328hp that runs 13 second quarters and gets 27-28mpg on the road is pretty damn impressive in my book. Right on par with the worthy competitor the BMW 335i and beats most everything else in that class. The S4 is right in that same ballpark too.

Keep in mind - if you are getting 15-16 in your use and the EPA rates city mpg for the 09 G37 at 18 and the 10 at 19, then you would be getting the same thing or likely worse in an S4. And you would be very lucky to get 13-14 from a C63 and most likely get worse than that. But seriously, did you really buy the G37 for it's city mpg? No sports sedan with a powerful 6 or 8 cyl motor is going to do well in pure city driving. Get a small car with a 4 cylinder if that is your goal. I suggest a civic or Mazda3 which should both get above 20mpg in pure city driving.

You got a point. I did not buy this car for fuel economy, I bought it for performance.

I don't care if putting gas in this car will suck me dry. I will beg, borrow and steal to keep this rocket fueled.

However I hear everyone getting 15-18mpg in the city while ripping the car occasionally, meanwhile I get 10-13 taking it easy. It makes me think there might be something wrong with car. Which is strange considering it's NEW

When cars are quoted getting an average MPG, in the city, I doubt if they are talking about NYC.
