AWD light while slipping/skidding?

I drive a 2009 G37x sedan.

It was icy last week, and from a stopped position, I proceeded to turn left into a mall entrance, and I had to do it fast as there was on-coming traffic approaching.

Car started slipping midway through the left turn.

I'm not sure if I the AWD kicked in, but anyway, traction was regained in about 1/2 second. I looked at the dash, and saw the AWD light flash for a second. I can't recall if the slip light flashed. I didn't step on the brakes though, because I had to avoid getting hit by on-coming traffic.

Anyway, I consulted the driver's manual later, and it states the AWD should never be on except during ignition of engine and shutoff. It sounds like if it appears anytime in between, there is malfunction.

So is my car in trouble, or does indeed the AWD blink once when the car activates the AWD during slippage?

Power was at your rear wheels at first. When you proceeded to make the turn and slipped, the AWD transfered half the car's power from the rear wheels to the front wheels giving all four wheels traction, thus the car regaining it's traction. This is from my understanding of how the AWD works. I really don't know whether the light was supposed to come on or not.

When I lose traction due to snow or ice my SLIP light briefly comes on but not my AWD light.

blitzebill - he said AWD light, your post says slip light. Seems to me OP answered his own question when referring to the owners manual and it is at least worth a question to a service tech.

Mine blinks sometimes in similar situations. If the light does not stay on I would not worry about it.

What blinks sometimes? AWD or SLIP. Only one is normal as noted.
