So...our normal key seems to be the issue. We've only had the car for a little less than three-months. Could the battery be low already in that fob, and lead to this problem? If so, then it still pretty much defeats the purpose of the protection. We've never plugged the key into the slot inside the car. Should that be more of a regular occurrence?
I haven't read the the entire thread...but $100 says its a low battery.

Can anyone confirm that the battery is the culprit? Wife threw gym bag in trunk (with key) and had to have one of our boys bring the spare!?!?

This just happened to me. Key in backpack, backpack in trunk. Trunk got closed, didn't make a peep - had to walk back to the office after lunch..

Backpack blocked the radio signal of the fob?

I don't think it would. I've frequently left my key in my laptop bag or backpack and had it pop open. I wonder if it makes a difference whether the key is really far back in the trunk or right up next to the taillights.

Can't you push the button on the trunk to open the trunk? With the key that close it should open.

Is there a place to use a physical key to open the trunk?

There is a button on the outside of my trunk. Works the same as the button on the doors that you push when the key is in your pocket.
