So I'm not understanding your dilemma sneather. Does it continually lock them in the trunk each time you try to replicate it or not? Is only one fob able to be locked in the trunk, both of them, or neither?

We have the two keys that came with the car. One works as it is supposed to, and the other does not. That is what I determined last night. It does not appear as if the car has a problem.

What I was trying to stress, Black Betty, is that the key that we normally use operates all the other features just fine. The only thing that doesn't work, is the anti-lockout feature. So, I can't figure out whether that means that the battery is a little low, very low, or just something else is broken with the fob.

That is a very good point about the key fob potentially having a low battery at the time that we bought the car.

Gotcha. As was stated, if the battery was low you will get a message when you start the car with that key in the center of the instrument display. Either 1) take it to the dealership. They'll probably just replace it rather than try to figure out what's wrong because that is cheaper and takes less time or 2) just start using the good fob as your primary.

Thanks. Yeah, this is probably going to culminate in a trip to the dealership. Although, we're just about at the initial service interval, and I wouldn't mind having them check to see if we need the ECU update for our 7AT. So, maybe a decent trip.

Just happened to me today before I was just about to leave for school. Lol

I had to go back to house and bust through the bug screener and get inside the house, grab my spare key, and back to my car. lol

Lesson learned.

That doesn't sound right. The switch in the glove box is supposed to cut the power to the trunk lock. Which means that you can only unlock it with the manual key inside the fob. Nothing else will work since the power is cut.

Blueslate, are you saying that your keyfob failed to prevent itself from being locked inside the car/trunk? Does it do everything else?

I opened the trunk with the button from the fob and managed to drop the key inside of trunk and closed it. When I tried to close the trunk with key inside of it before, the trunk popped back up. But this time, it managed to close shut. I'm just kinda confused of how this works anymore.

this has actually happened to me before. i was showing a friend how the trunk pops back open, because it usually does. i locked my car and threw my keys in the trunk and closed my trunk, but i heard no beeping this time. i had to go get my spare key to unlock my car and get my keys out of the trunk. i also have no idea why this happened, but i tried it again and the trunk popped open.

Maybe the key fob made a mistake and thought that i was in the driver seat with the key in my pocket?

It also ruined my demonstration to my friend of how i can NEVER lock my keys inside my car!

Happened to me. Keys in gym bag. Gym bag in trunk. I'm calling roadside assistance to get back into my car.

Interesting. This thread may turn into something more substantial, if this is happening to more and more people. The anti-lockout feature would be fairly useless if it either only works sporadically, or partially when the batter gets a little low in the fob.

I didn't realize until now how many people actually lock their keys in the trunk. I am putting together a business plan now to open a franchise that deals with retrieving keys that are locked in trunks.
....and we will also sell replacement batteries at a huge mark-up for those whose keys we rescue.
