First "Maintenance" after the First 3 Months

Hey guys,

Please excuse me if this is a stupid question lol.

The first 3 months is coming up and I was wondering if I should bring my car in to get the oil and oil filter change or would it be okay to just do it at another place closer to home?

The dealership is a bit of a distance and traffic is a biatch.

So, just wondering if <div_prefs></div_prefs>it is necessary to bring it in? Do they inspect the car for other issues at the same time?

All you really need to do is change your oil and oil filter, check your fluid levels and check your tires. You don't need to take it to the dealer for that.

I get my maintenance done at my local Nissan dealer because it is much closer to my house and about half of the cost of my Infiniti dealer (and less than half of the dealer cost for an oil change). Their coffee is not as good, though . Also I think most people schedule their maintenance based on mileage rather than months - recommended 3750 or 7500 depending on your driving conditions. I just ask for the oil change, and they do all those additional inspections for no charge, as they might pick up some extra business that way. Current price for oil change with regular oil is 18.95 (vs. $50 at the dealer).

You can get the oil changed wherever you like. Just keep your receipts for proof you had it changed each time in case something ever goes wrong with the engine. It protects you from them trying to void your warranty for not doing so.

And mileage is the key. First oil change should be done at 3750 miles sccording to the manual. After that it is 3750 - 7500.

Dang... $50 for an oil change... holy cow...

My car is only at about 2,500 miles at the moment, I guess I can wait a bit more.

I paid $50 for Mobil 1 at the Nissan dealer. No idea what my Infiniti dealer would want.

If people are so concerned about the price of an oil change then take it to Jiffy Lube. But I don't think they're focus is on quality even with such a simple job.

BTW - Chevy used to charge $70 for a Mobil-1 oil change (7 quarts) and the dealer I used wasn't great on quality either. After spotting a few drops of oil in my garage a day or so later I found the filter wasn't properly tightened. That was my last Chevy oil change.

Don't you need documentation of the oil change so the dealership won't void the warranty?

Save your receipts for the oil you buy. Keep your own records of each oil change date and mileage.
