Brake light switch confusion

Yeah so I never messed with before. There’s 2 switches right next to each other. Does it have to be OEM? The third brake light and regular brake lights stay on and car starts without holding brake. I’m just disconnecting battery for now. It seems like just a bad brake switch. Help.

One is your brake switch and the other is for the cruise control. That said your brake switch is likely fine. At the top of each switch there is a rubber pad. It is becoming more common for these to pads to dry rot causing either the brake lights to remain on or the cruise control to not engage. Mine was the cruise control.

Look underneath and check the pads:

In my case it was the cruise but the brake pad disintegrated the moment I tried to remove it.

If this is your issue then:
Dorman p/n: 74015 (thanks to @Jloego for providing that option), or
OEM: 46584-S0100.

Let us know how you make out.

Just line the new pad up with the hole in the bracket and press down. They will just snap right into place. Takes all of 30sec.

Hey there, Would you mind telling me the procedure needed to get to those switches? I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

No "procedure." You'll probably have to lie on your back or be a contortionist but just look under the dash at the brake pedal assembly. You can tell if the pads are intact or not.

In my case, the cruise control switch deteriorated and broke off first. I replaced both at the same time and as soon as I touched the brake pedal switch pad it "shattered." Cheap rubber. Cheaper fix.

Now if the pads are solid/ good and the brake lights are still on then either the switch needs adjusting or it needs replacement. All easy fixes.
