Brake Light Switch?

08 G37S Coupe

So woke up, had a dead battery, was hoping that was the issue. Get a new one in and notice my brake lights aren't going off. From what I've gathered it seems like its a brake light switch that has probably gone bad. I also noticed that when I push the start button, it immediately turns on, as if the brake were pressed, would that still be an issue caused by a brake light switch or could it be something else? I also intend on replacing the part myself so am curious if there is any How-To's around.

Any insight is highly appreciated

Ken

You have it figured out. Check the DIY forum to see if someone has documented changing the switch.

I didn’t see any there, but I’m going to upload what I’m seeing and have someone coming out to verify. I believe they’re both missing the rubber pieces?

To clarify I have what appears to be two switches after a fork from the pedal, one is the brake light switch and I’m unsure what the other is and curious if it also needs replacing?

The other switch is for the cruise control, I believe.

Thats correct. So ironically enough the rubber piece that pushes the bottom of the brake light switch up was missing. Put a push clip in there after testing with a quarter and it fixed the issue.

Stop light switch

Hi, apparently I’m having a similar issue and looks like I already fixed but just to be sure I’ve come here for advice.
what happen was I got my G37 6MT from my mechanic cuz I had a exhaust leak and it was triggering my o2 sensor and SES was coming on.
picked up the car took it for a test drive and no issues, all was fixed until, but later I went to grab a coffee and and noticed the 2 top led from the smaller circle in the tail lights were on, all the other off, coming home I felt the acceleration sluggish around 3k rpm, right after I got the Slip, VCD and ABS light on, so I got my scanner and got 1 fault at the abs, “stop light switch”
went to check it and everything seemed alright, just wiggle the wire and pressed a couple times the switch, erased the code, went for a short drive to test it, no more sluggishness and after locking the car all lights were off.
could it be just some kind of glitch or it’s a kinda of a warning that the switch is going bad??

thank you
