Dying battery, bad alternator or something else
Dying battery, bad alternator or something else
Hey vq gang,
So just a couple months ago, my 08 g37s coupe was not able to start. Seemed like it was a battery issue and got the car jumped a couple of times whenever it failed to start. A few weeks flew by and again the issue persists, one random day, it would just have a mind of it's own and not start. I had my battery checked by my mechanic and he said it was fine and fully functioning but I am still having the issue of my car not starting at very random times. Knowing my situation, I went out and bought a portable jumper just in case. Does anyone else have this issue? How do you know if it's a dying battery or a bad alternator? Can it possibly be something else?
**I do leave my mini radio like thing plugged into my 12v but I doubt that can drain the battery especially since the car is fully turned off and no other accessories are running** (but can this be a culprit? )
Anything would help! Please help me out vq family! Thanks!

A drain is a drain. If something is constantly pulling power from a battery that is not being recharged while the car is not running can drain thar battery.
You need to get a multimeter if you want to verify your alternator is working right

Get a multimeter and check for parasitic draw. After the car "goes to sleep" you should be reading ≈25-30mA (milliamps) on the meter. Anything more and you have something draining the battery.
With the engine running your meter should be showing ≈13-14V (volts).
