G37 Paint Chips

Just got my roof wrapped in black vinyl and the guy who wrapped it pointed out that on the driver side front corner of the roof, the paint flaked up under the vinyl. My question is: has anyone else noticed how terrible Infiniti paint is? I swear every time someone touches the car, there's a new paint chip (Moonlight white paint). Also, do you all think when the Vinyl wrap comes off will it peel up a lot more paint? I can attach pictures if needed.

Also, is there anything I can do to keep this soft paint from chipping?

I had an '02 WRX, which was also afflicted with paint that chipped like it was that water based non-toxic stuff they let kids play with, and there never was a true fix short of stripping it off. I did repaint the car, and since I knew what I was working with, immediately invested in a heavy duty clear bra for the entire front end.

The clear bra took hits from rocks that otherwise would have caused ugly pock marks and reduced them to nothing or a tiny pin point if it made it through. Even if the rock made it to metal, the taut vinyl kept the paint from blowing off around the point of impact.

It'd be nice to know the age, miles and if you are original owner of the car before we make assumptions about what is going on with your paint. These cars are now old enough to have lived very difficult lives.
You could be having paint issues due to a previous body shop, or you truly could be experiencing poor paint durability from the factory.

I too am aware of poor paint quality beginning some time in 2000, seems EPA or something mandated different paint which was less durable (probably the root cause of our sticky dashes also). I remember my wife accidentally side swiped my 1997 Maxima with her 2008 Impreza, the Impreza was badly damaged, paint came right off down to the bumper and was deposited on my Maxima. I was able to remove the Impreza paint from my Maxima with a basic car washing! Her car had to go to the body shop and get repaired.

However, the paint on my 2014 Q60 seems to be more durable than any of our early 2000's cars, so maybe they are getting better at this EPA-safe paint? The color of my car was new for the coupes in 2014 so it may be a newer blend.

I was watching a YT vid on wrapping cars, and the experienced guy said that peeling paint during wrapping is usually associated with certain car brands/models or past body repair. He said peeling paint was a big issue when wrapping a car.

For sure. Figured it must be inevitable at this point. 2010 G37s in moonlight white with 90k miles

Yeah I've come to the conclusion that this low VOC paint is essentially water color

I'm going to walk this statement back. Had my car for a few years now, no issues until recently. Just came back from a 4K mile road trip. Paint is trashed. I took the same road trip in my 2016 GTI a few years back, and I got ONE chip on that car. My Q60 looks like it got blasted with 12 gauge birdshot. I only drove 82 mph, don't ever recall being "blasted" by much, and my car looks like crap. I have driven local freeways for years and local city streets, but 4K miles on Interstate was just too much for the Q60 paint to handle.
For comparison, my GTI was tuned to 300HP and 350TQ and I freaking hauled butt everywhere in that car and tailgated the **** out of anyone not doing 90+. I clearly remember getting a gravel shower in a construction zone from a passing truck, thinking at that moment my GTI was trashed. Got home, just one of the tiniest paint chips possible, couldn't even see it from 5 feet. My Q60 looks like it has a grey beard now even though I drove way more chill than I did when I had the GTI.

Oh well, all cars will meet their end, in a junkyard.
