Where to purchase car paint?

First off, sorry if this is a stupid question but I have had no experience w/ painting before and tried to research it but have not come up w/ any clear answers.

I was wondering if there was a differnce b/t reg. paint and car paint. And where I would be able to purchase car paint in ivory pearl. TIA for the help.

You can purchase it from an Infiniti dealer. They have the exact paint that is used for your car. It also comes in a pen applicator.

are you talking about touch up paint tube with a brush or paint by the pint/gallon?

you have to go to an autobody supply shop. if you have never used this type of paint, you are not going to be able to do it.

the ip is a three stage paint. basecoat/pearlcoat/clearcoat. the paint itself is mixed from a formula and must have the correct reducer added in correct proportion to the paint depending on ambient temperature. it can only be sprayed with an hvlp gun and you will not be able to do a good job first time around...guaranteed. you will not be able to mix the correct proportion of pearl powder to the clear for you pearlcoat and you will definitely run the clearcoat.

here is a basic list of materials and appoximate cost per item. unless you are serious about learning how to paint, this is not a worthy investment.

*paint, 1 pint $50-$95
*reducer, i can $45
*pearl addative $75-$95

hvlp gun $75-$500 and up
you get what you pay for

you need to rent an air compressor if you dont have one
you need a desecant in the line to the gun

edit: i forgot, a gallon of clear runs around $125 and the hardener for the clear runs $70 or so.
