I use a sunshade religiously...I wonder if that will make a difference...I have a 2013 coupe with no problems yet...

We need to start by finding a lawyer who's willing to put in the initial work pro Bono

We need to start calling law schools and getting the law students on this. This can be a project for upper classmen, or even a hungry new lawyer.

2008 for me, I am exploring vinyl wrap options to cover cracks and the stickiness.

Fresh Out of Law School

Hey all, I'm a new G37s Convertible owner as well as a fresh out of law school lawyer. The car that I just bought also has the same cracked dash issue. I actually initially thought that the previous owner did not maintain the car very well and was very upset with the dealership for not disclosing the cracks before I flew down to South Florida to buy the car (it otherwise looked great in pictures and has low miles/clean title/nice color combo). I did some quick google research while at the dealership and realized that it is a common problem with the dash and was buying a car in otherwise great condition with no mechanical issues at all for a bargain at 4k less than what the market was for the same vehicle, so I still bought the car (I love it other than this dash issue).

This sounds like it is an issue worthy of a class action and recall status. In order to get a class action started, we would need a lead class participant as well as Diversity Jurisdiction and Subject Matter Jurisdiction (these are federal civil procedure legal terms in order to file the class action federally). A class action needs to be approved by the courts, and it would be extremely helpful if anyone knows if the melted dash actually releases harmful chemicals, because that would be a very big sticking point (pun intended) to get a class action approved!

My 2008 coupe has the sticky dash that became noticeable during the hotter summer months here in Texas. Using a good quality sun shade resulted in the black stickiness transferring to the lower inside edge of the shade which in turn made it stick to the dash and cause it to begin tearing the vinyl when I was removing it one day.

I went with the simple solution of getting the black suede dash cover I had seen another forum member using that's from Autonotions.com. It took about a month to get it since it's a special order item. The thing fits the dash quite well and looks pretty decent. I can use the sun shade once more. I'm going to consider it a mostly solved problem and move on.

2008 G37 coupe, always garaged at home and at work also started melting. There are a few very minor cracks around the air vents on the sides but it's the sticky gooey stuff that's scary. You run your finger nail into it and pieces just pry off......

I cannot find ANY solution even close to even stopping the process......

Hmm that's odd. I have a 08' G37S Coupe as well that is garaged at home and at work, since day 1, and the dash is in the same condition that it was when it left the factory. Of course my G only has 30k miles on it.
