Getting bored with my '08 G37S.. Keep vs. BMW?
Thought I'd chime in as I just came from a BMW 335i Sedan 6 speed tuned on Cobb somewhere around 400 HP. Reason I gave another car a try was some lady hit my heavily modded BMW and I didn't want to start over, had with my wheels about 7k in aesthetic mods plus some interior stuff... so I chose the G37s because STOCK it looked better and wanted a diff platform I guess? Between the two performance wise, the 335i eats up the G37s IMO all day. Steering is way better, handling, and the acceleration and gearing beats the G37 stock let alone when you just get a simple plug in tune your at 400 HP. Yes, many that stated before you do get stupid service engine soon lights, but most of them don't really affect the car. I had the car from 58k, tuned it at 60k, and got hit at 105k, so I feel that's a good sample size to be able to say their not that unreliable. Yes any car that you tune the factory turbo's are going to have little things go but still be very driveable and powerful. If you get a warranty like I did from Carmax than you're Golden. I just wanted a diff platform, I do prefer the cockpit and interior of the G to the BMW, not by much, just the dash and illumination orange of the BMW is so outdated looking IMO......So yeah not sure what I'm doing I may stick with the G, it's a nice car, reliable seems, have had it 8 months now, but doesn't nearly give me the same fun factor to drive like the tuned 335i did. You could pretty much mess with 90% of the cars on the road in that car with no effort hitting the throttle.....Just diff cars even though when buying used their pretty much in the exact same price range....

No sir, no turbos were replaced at all, turbos can easily last even boosted to 130-150k. People say 100k for some reason, but I owned that car for 2 years and was apart of e90post.com which I highly recommend if you're getting a Bimmer, great forum like this one. Anyways, yeah only thing I had replaced was the clutch after about 20k, not sure how hard previous owner drove it, but I do know because of the extra power I'm sure it made the clutch go prematurely. But I upgrade to the 335is clutch which is OEM but same clutch in the 550i which is very torquey like 450lbs or something stock, so yeah that wasn't bad with clutch and labor came to around $1200 after tax....I also replaced the plugs myself, and 2 coilpacks, you tend to get misfires every 5-10k when you're tuned but their cheap like $80 and can easily DIY. Other than that only code I had and never addressed because it didnt't affect my car was one of the 02 sensors. So yeah I never actually used the warranty just was pro rated back to me because I had it for 5 years or 125k.
Water pump yes is a known fault in those cars, I got lucky I was planning on it but had the warranty....But like someone said before you only live once, get a car and enjoy it... Now I do agree with the guys in buying a salvaged BMW, could be a BIG MESS without a warranty....I'd NEVER buy a BMW without an extended warranty . Parts too expensive and for most things you have to go to specialized shops because AVG mechanics don't know how to fix them, they use diff tools and all this funky German ****. But Boy are they fun. LOL
All in all, some more probs than the G but not as bad as most people make it sound. My roommates 550 had ridiculous electrical issues. The battery tie down came loose at one point and blew a fuse or something, the car was never the same again. The windshield wipers would turn on randomly, sensing rain when there wasn't. The trunk open chime and screen warning was lit at all times if it was hot outside. The car didn't even start half the time but wouldn't list any codes to clear. Just a big mess. Luckily he wrecked it and totally it out, he then got a G37 sedan and hasn't looked back.
I've had a 2 g37's and I bought my second one last year 25k miles. Maintained it and drove normal for 25k miles and then engine started overheating and got everything replaced radiator, thermostat and then figured to change the head gaskets and still overheated and this was all done under warranty with Infiniti so they decided to replace the engine. A week later my batterie dies so I get it checked battery is toast so I bought a new one and my car drained it asap! Dealer just replaced the alternator and then found out fans were making a noise so I agree for the most part our cars are reliable for but they're not perfect in any way, I been on the forums for about 2 years since my first G37 I thought I would never run into this with these cars until now. I don't agree I believe BMWs are good engineered cars but aren't perfect by any means either so just wanted to chime in.

No issues with my Q60 coupe yet. but my G35 on the other hand, that thing was a dealership lottery ticket. Problems every dang time and the car only had 25k miles. The G never died on me nor did it ever leave me on the side of the road, but maintaining it was a hassle.
Good thing I purchased extended warranty. Cause it paid for itself 200 times over.
Now add a turbo and a brand new untested motor. You'll going to have problems!

I'd steer clear of any salvaged title...particularly a BMW. I'm not as anti-German as some on here as I have a Mercedes E-class in addition to my G. I prefer the Infiniti for sure, and it's easier to maintain, so I'd say "stick with the Infiniti ".

I owned e92...sold it after reading the forums for a year about blown engines. Tons of threads on this. The g37s is 100x more reliable. I do understand you ...I have owned my g37s for 8 months and I am bored. Probably going back to a vette someday. The g37 however is a great car fits every need its darn near perfect in every way.... except excitement...

My brother just bought a 2013 BMW 335I about two weeks ago, despite my attempts to sway him to test out a G37S.
(My dad also owns a BMW E92 M3, which is probably the fastest car in our family right now.)
The 335I was ~$32K with just 16,000 miles on the clock. I would personally never buy a BMW, despite how incredibly nice they are because of the maintenance nightmares they can become, especially the E92 M3, which is known to throw rods and blow motors.
I say add another mod to keep you interested in your G a bit longer. It's much more reliable than a BMW, especially one with a salvage title.
I'm big fan of BMW, as long as they still have the warranty lol.
