They came out really well. I need to bite the bullet, stop overthinking it, and just do mine.
Are they clearcoated?
Thanks! indeed they are. 1 tack coat follow by 2 wetter coats primer. 3 coats burnt copper. decal of your choice once dried. 3 coats gloss clear. VHT makes great products id have to say. the paint seems to self-level well as long as you're not too trigger happy with the nozzle. oh, and take your sweet *** time in between coats. the decal part will thank you later.
What time between paint coats? Time to dry before decal? Time between clear coats? How many cans of each?
That really looks great in your pic. I'm so freaking jealous. Does it stand up to scrutiny when eyeballing the job close-up?
Thanks man! Tack-coat is what I like to call the half-assed coat. You're essentially misting the entire part so that you give the following coats something to build off of and prevent runs. I would say it is safe to wait 15min between coats. VHT can says to spray all your coats within an hour so that all about matches up. I only used 1 can of VHT primer for all 4 calipers, 2 cans of VHT Burnt Copper, and 1 can VHT High Gloss Clear. The part I say to take your time is right before applying the decal (Akebono, Infiniti, Nismo, etc) and follow up with the gloss clear. You should wait at least a full hour (or more if you have time) before applying the decal. The backing of the vinyl caliper decal can/will pull back the paint when applying it to the caliper. The rears came out damn near perfect but that was during the first part of the DIY when I had more patience lol. The fronts which catch the eye more will show its imperfections. Before painting anything, I recommend using a caliper cleaner spray and wiping it down really well with a microfiber towel. If you want to be "extra" you can also get a light scuffing pad and go over all the calipers to give the primer better adhesion. There were quite a few good DIY videos with caliper painting. I specifically followed one where the guy was painting his M3 calipers yellow using similar paint. Hope this helps!

How does the vht hold up to heat? My silver calipers are now gold/copper from my last 2 track days (not too far off of a colour from yours oddly enough lol).
i have some some vht high heat 400+ degree f paint in teal now, and im wondering if it's just going to cook when i paint them then go run laps at the track.
I wanted the foliatec teal caliper high heat paint kit but it seems i can only get it from UK and they won't ship it to North America since its considered "dangerous goods"
for the longest ive wanted to get the arm rest stitch red to match the IPL steering wheel and now the q60 red sport shifter w/ boot. Found a spare OEM arm rest and went to town. Bought color matched automotive upholstery thread. It came out pretty well IMO and will be very happy to install it. - =)

I honestly wouldn't know as I have not driven the car hard/long enough. The paint can I used said it was rated up to 650 degrees F. I guess only time will tell lol.

To anyone else that wants to do this there's at least a couple of sellers that sell the shift boot and armrest leather with red stitching for about $15 on eBay. The A-pillars are a little over $60
Did a very small visual mod today and installed N8's plate over my missing Mt. Fuji on the engine cover that has been bugging me.
