At first I thought the leak was from a worn out o-ring, but it ended up being the damper itself. I ended up purchasing the whole damper Assy.

Here is the part number for the part 22675JK20B, I believe it cost me like $68 or something. Comes with everything you need (new o-oring, damper and hose)

Install took me like 30 minutes or so. To relieve the pressure you can remove the fuel pump fuse and crank your car a few times to relieve the pressure. For me, I just wrapped a rag around the damper and slowly twist and pulled on the damper, letting the rag absorb the small amount of fuel that came out. The hose end has a green quick connect to disconnect it from the rest of the fuel line, I was able to do it under the passenger side behind the passenger tire. I think I also removed a bracket that was boxing in and holding the quick connect to the car body.

Hey man do you have any idea how I am able to reach the green quick connector? There's hardly any room to reach it from above or below. I feel like I'm going to have to take it to a shop to have done, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg

The blower motor is pulling air down otherwise the dirt would be on the bottom of the filter instead of on the topside of the cabin filter when you remove it.

If you did not install yours correctly you may want to check the arrow direction.

hi telecomman

everything ive read about blowers says blowers blow and circulate air. it doesnt say anything about vacuuming air downwards. i kno none of it makes sense as to how the filter is catching debris if the blower is blowing upwards. so i dont really kno for sure how the air is being circulated. if the blower is sucking air down then that means the air is circulated downwards and there should be channels under the blower? i even tried looking at the hac section of the fsm and the air flow diagram (non trivial) doenst show any air flow under the blower unit.

For most filters it probably makes no difference. Some filters have charcoal or other substances to freshen/filter the air. In that case direction makes all the difference. install it wrong and weird particles will be blowing from the vents.

Here's the cabin filter from inside the engine bay. It does indeed pull air down from the outside. As you can see from the dirty filter :P

is that opening normally covered or always open? bc if its constantly open wouldnt debris be constantly flowing there regardless if the blower is on or not? could it just be the same crap debris that also on the battery around the cowl?

No, there's actually a plastic cover that sits over top the hole. It leaves just enough space for air to get through.

so that area is constantly open thus debris is flowing into there 24/7 regardless if the blower is on or not? if thats the case the top of the filter will always be dirty regardless of blower air flow?

Pull the glove box and turn on the blower. Should be clear which way the air is moving.

No, as he said there is a cover that allows a bit of air through, that's it. If it were completely sealed there would be no point of a filter at all.

i guess that would explain why you could feel slight constant air coming out of the vents even tho the ac is off? with that said the top of the filter would be dirty on top regardless of air flow is up or down bc air from engine is bay is constantly flowing down through the opening

Yeah more or less, you can also change the mode to go from outside air to just filter cabin air in and out. Just depends on what you want but the auto mode is always best, its a smart system.

Okay everyone, I wrote a DIY on how to replace the fuel damper. Hope it helps anyone else out that might run into this problem!
