X-Pipe or H-Pipe

Hello, Im new to this forum and new to the Infiniti/Nissan Scene as well.

I bought a 2011 37s coupe, and installed the Meisterschaft axle back exhaust. To my surprise it was much quieter than I had expected, so I removed the resonators to see if I heard a difference. Turns out now the car is incredibly loud even at low rpms.

I am having an exhaust shop fabricate me a true dual setup with an X or H section installed. Would anyone be able to tell me the difference in sound suppression between those two components?

I would go w/ the X, better cancellation at the frequencies that cause rasp, and more efficient flow.

X pipe for sure. I had a custom cutback built using an x pipe and it sounds magnificent.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but for you guys who have done custom exhaust work, did you go with mandrel or crush bends?

I believe mine is all mandrel bent. I cannot remember though to be honest. I had it done at a shop that ONLY does exhaust work so Im assuming it is.

X-Pipe or H-Pipe

Mandrel benders are very expensive (50k IIRC), so never assume that it's mandrel, even for exhaust only shops. Some places have pre-bent pieces that they weld together, but very few actually have mandrel benders.

I guess it's still worth a shot to see how much a X pipe and 2.5in piping would cost me at a shop. Stock piping is a joke.

Asking for "mandrel-bent" is a crap shoot. All tubing/pipe benders use mandrels (except Bender the robot), you have to ask if the shop can make non-crushed bends. Some can, some can't.

And I'd say an X cross-over provides flow as well as pulse scavenging benefits while an H cross-over would provide little in flow benefit. Disclosure: I'm not an exhaust engineer nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express. However, I did read Scientific Design Of Exhaust And Intake Systems / Edition 3 by Philip H Smith, Phillip H. Smith, John C. Morrison. Not an easy read nor terribly illuminating.
