Tanabe Axleback or Save up for Catback System?
Have you ever seen or even handled a Tanabe axle back in person? If you did, you wouldn't call it a waste of money.
I personally think it's worth every penny. The sound, fit and finish are perfect and of very, very high quality. That's why people are willing to spend the extra $$$ for it. I know I did. I got both the Tanabe axle back and mid pipe, by the way. I wish Tanabe also made the Y pipe for the AWD G37. That's the only thing I'm missing and I don't want to add just any no name, POS Y pipe to my car. And FYI, my Tanabe mid pipe and axle back are made in Japan.
Where are your Megan Y pipe and beluga mufflers made again?

I would save your $$ and get a catback. I have the tanabe on mine (sedan) and the sound was a hair better than stock. I spent another $500 on replacing my resonators with vibrant resonators and a y-pipe. sounds awesome, but i could have spent a little more and got a FI catback.
just my 02 cents

The message below is not directed at you, guy from norcal, but I'm just saying in general.
Quality or quantity? For what I paid for my Tanabe mid pipe and axle back, I could have gotten a full catback (of lesser quality). But I decided to go with less quantity (hence, still missing a Y pipe for my car) and more quality. You gotta pay to play.
When modding cars, it's important to do it once and do it right so that you won't waste time and money. How do I know? I learn from my own experiences. And it's always better to go with quality products made by reputable companies. That peace of mind is priceless all the time--to me, at least.
OP, if you want to get just the Tanabe axle back now, it's an excellent product and I highly recommend it. You can purchase the rest of the Tanabe catback system later if your car is RWD and when you have more money. Or save up enough money to buy a high quality, complete catback system later on (Tanabe, HKS, etc.). The G is a nice car and at least deserves equally nice aftermarket parts. If you're gonna put on cheap, knock off parts (I'm not saying you're gonna do that), you may as well keep the car stock. Just my two cents. Happy modding!
Yeah thanks for all the opinions and info even though had some heated battles randomly in this thread but that's how it always is haha. Going with the Ark Grip since love the look, sound and getting it for a good price right now.
The Tanabe axle back for the coupe sounds way better than the one for the sedan.

What's your point again? I just don't understand your logic, buddy. I said my Tanabe parts are made in Japan because that's the reason why they are expensive, not "a waste of money" like you said. Stuff made in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, etc. are obviously cheaper, which means inferior quality 99% of the time. Get it now?
