Will exhaust mods on a q50 make the same sound on my g37 coupe?

Hey fellas, hope you're all doing well today. A buddy of mine has a q50 and has my ideal sounding exhaust on it. He said it was simple, all they did was remove the resonators and mufflers and straight pipe those. My question is, would doing that on my 08 coupe have the same sound as his? I've looked online to find videos but its so hard to tell online if they would sound the same. Looking for some input. Thanks!

It's an auto, no way will it sound like a 6mt G.

unless u want it to sound like an Auto G? Not sure if it's possible. The G did have a nice exhaust tone straight from the factory.

No other aftermarket exhaust sounds like it from what I've heard. A lot of the aftermarket exhaust don't have the same deep growl and as the G35 stock exhaust.

Most aftermarket exhaust have this weird raspy sound. The crappy one sounds like a tin can.

This is the epitome of being too concerned with auto vs. manual to actually give helpful advice. It's the same engine, that's the part that matters here. This is why all exhausts are interchangeable between 7AT and 6MT. The only difference in the sound would be the shift points which could be manually toggled on an auto as well so it's still a moot point. You can't make a manual transmission car sound like an automatic transmission car by changing to a certain exhaust.

"6MT over 7AT due to better exhaust sound!" - Give up the manual transmission pretentiousness.

OP: Yes, the same exhaust setup will sound very similar, if not identical, since the noise is coming from the same engine. Whether auto or manual - the cars will sound very similar, if not the same, under the same load conditions.

Haha, agreed. I should point out though that the different body structure (sedan vs coupe) can make some difference in the way the sound resonates, especially from inside the cabin.

lol +1 on wtf auto vs 6MT OP didn't even mention he had a MT coupe

what ryne is pretty on point also keep in mind the piping diameter as well I don't know about the Q50 but I know coupes have a 2.5" diameter piping and the sedans have a 2.25"

True but 6mt vs 7at with same exhaust, the 6mt will sound more like a race car lol.

There is no exhaust in the world that can make a G37 sound like a purpose built race car...

Straight piped Auto G is just loud as ****...it sounds horrible in my opinion. AT vs MT exhaust note does actually make a difference. I had a car that I swapped from auto to a manual and it made the note deeper. There is a neighbor down the street with an AT coupe and my MT sounds much deeper...stock for stock. So the comments that it doesnt make a difference is slightly off base, however it is not the only factor so don't base your choice on transmission alone

Thanks guys! To end the debate, the car is a 5AT. I don't plan on straight piping, x pipe and muffler delete may happen though. Most likely going to keep resonators. I asked Sebastian from Specialty Z and apparently the x pipe setup produces more power and torque through their findings.
