2012 G37x Coupe Pulling/Drifting
2012 G37x Coupe Pulling/Drifting
Does your car do this? A service guy said it was normal....
I bought mine CPO and during the test drive I found that it pulled to the left so I told the salesman and he had it aligned before I brought it home. I think I was too excited to drive it home that I didn't notice it was still doing it (doh!). Some time went by and I found that it was still a problem so I brought it to a local shop and they checked the alignment and said it was fine and didn't need to be aligned (they didn't charge me and could have made some easy $$ so I trust them) but that they could have one of their guys test drive it for a fee so instead of paying them to test drive it I just brought it to a dealership because it's still under warranty.
The dealership said they didn't notice anything wrong with it in the test drive. They checked everything (control arms, links, tires, etc) but said everything looked good and they couldn't diagnose it unless they did an alignment first. I was reluctant to pay to have it aligned since I knew it was fine but they wouldn't do anything else unless I did so I negotiated the cost of the alignment and they said it was slightly off. I was hoping that fixed it but, of course, it didn't.
I called them on the way home and explained that if I'm on a straightaway and I'm holding the wheel the car will drift to the left so he said to bring it back in. A week goes by and I bring my car in but they said they wouldn't drive it in the rain (waste of time) and he says he has a 2013 CPO G37 and his does it too and it's just the road. I get if I let go of the wheel it may drift due to the crown or condition of the road but if I'm holding the wheel it shouldn't and every other car I've owned or drove didn't have this problem.
Either:
1. He's just trying to get me to accept the fact that they can't figure out what's wrong so I 'deal with it'
2. There's something different about this car that causes it to drift.
3. There's something wrong and I just need to go to another dealership and hope they know what the problem is.
Thoughts, guys? Has anyone had a similar problem?
Thanks

Hi Fellow X Coupe owner,
Well i like to believe i know my x very well so let me tell you a little bit about the behavior of our cars
If road is "unleveled" , when switching lanes your car will be abrupt in the lane change ... "regardless square setup or staggered wheel setup"
but the vehicle does not and should not pull to a specific direction ....
I would check factory suspension , sways.... , to make an accurate statement take the car in a parking lot and drive straight at 40 km/h and if the car leans there is an issue....
It is not normal what so ever ....
I have an x Coupe and its straight as a vertical line
Pay the mechanic outside the dealer to check it out ... Could be low air pressure in front wheels ....

My G does this a lot to as well, I thought it was just a G thing. On the highway when braking the car pulls to the left more than any car I've driven. I've owned a 370z and TSX and this never happened to me before. Also my rear tires for some reason wiggle around on the highway. I did speak to the tech and they said the tires and alignment was perfect. My G currently makes really weird scrapping noises as well when driving like metal cutting.

If your car is still under the 4yr 60k new car warranty you shouldnt have had to pay a dime for the alignment. I wouldnt have.

I never heard of an alignment being covered under warranty so I'll have to look into that but either way they wouldn't do anything else unless I had it aligned first and I dropped off my car for the day so I figured why not. They checked the tires and the pressure was fine. I think I need to get them or someone else to drive it in a parking lot so they cave blame the road. There was some vibration on the highway when braking but they resurfaced the rotors for free and that went away. The other thing I noticed is that the car wobbles at low speeds. I think it does it all the time but it's more noticeable at low speeds. I'll probably just try bringing it to another dealership.
Thanks for the help guys.

Perhaps another dealer can figure it out?
Was the vehicle ever in an accident?
Could be tires, rims, misalignment, suspension defects who knows
Good luck and let us know

As a former alignment tech, I have to ask this:
Does it pull to the left when you let go of the wheel?
Or?
Is the steering wheel off center to the right, and when you hold it straight the car goes to the left.
The former is a true pull, the latter is not a pull.
You might be explaining this wrong to the dealer.
