advices to dealing with dealership?

Hello guys,

I'm looking for some advices on dealing with the dealership about an oil leak.
So the story is: I was driving my 2010 G37 the other day when one of the lights came on. Checked the manual and noted that it said "low engine oil pressure light" and advised me to stop driving immediately. I made an appointment the next day to go get it checked out at the Infiniti dealership but was unable to get on the freeway cause the car wouldn't even go above 2000 RPM without stalling. I had to bring it in to a local Nissan dealership instead. They checked it out and called me back couple hours later letting me know that the engine was shutting down on itself because it detects possible damage from a oil leak secondary to the "plug" fallen off. Essentially my engine was running on no oil for couple weeks and I did not notice it or smell it.
Now, this is an interesting problem because I have my car in every 3700 miles to have its oil changed at the Infiniti dealership and I have not touched anything within the car myself. I and the Nissan mechanic suspects that they must've not screwed it on or didn't put it on correctly at my last oil change, resulting in its detachment and fallen off.
I have not spoken with the Infiniti dealership about this cause it is the weekend. How do you guys advise me to approach this problem as they obviously will try to deny the fault is on their part. Dude told me there might be possible engine damage and I won't know it for couple months and it would take $6000 to fix.

My advice is to take it to the Infiniti dealership and give them a chance to make things right before assuming they will deny responsability. There really isn't any other a advice that can be given at this point since the process hasn't been initiated and you may not even have any issues with getting everything resolved.

Be nice to them when you take the car in and not accusatory as this will make them more willing to help you.

Why do you never check your oil?

Even after the dealer changes my oil I always check it at least weekly

Be nice when speaking to the service manager

If the plug did indeed fall out ask to observe when they put your vehicle on a lift.
Ask for the tech ID who changed your oil.
The dealer has insurance for mistakes made by their employees.

If you have a history of having all work done at the dealer you should not have a problem.

And that is why I only let the dealer touch my vehicle in case of any problems.
Never had any!

Good luck

I would hope the oil pressure light would come on as soon as the oil drains. I can't image you driving a whole week without oil. Perhaps the plug fell out shortly before the light came on.

Did you notice any "Spy Hunter" oil slicks behind you?

I don't think you can drive a week without oil and not notice. I don't think you could drive 15 min and not notice... Take it back to the dealer, and see what they say.
