All racked up

I'm fairly new here and haven't seen many people with roof racks to solve the limited trunk space issue. I live in Calgary Alberta, Canada and travel fairly often to the mountains to hit the slopes.

I went with the Yakima Q towers and Q78 (front) and Q53 (rear) Q-clips that fit the G37 coupe. Love it so far, pictures to come with the G in winter mode.

Review: 20" bar spread. Can't mount a roof box up there without some creativity. I'm going to build something. Racks do mount solid though even though the part they mount to on the car is plastic.

The Q-clips were about $90. But you can get 1 set on ebay for about $25. The towers and bars I had from a previous car. New about $400, I got mine used for $150.

My Yakima ski/snowboard racks hold 4 snowboard or 6 sets of skis. They're an older model, so depending on how many snowboards you want to put up there, you can buy new Yakima Powderhounds or Yakima Fat Cat's to suit your needs. Even the smallest snowboard racks should fit 2 boards.

So, update... I live in the great white north (Alberta) and it's time to swap the bike rack for ski racks. I have Yakima ski racks that mount to these bars, but I'm thinking of replacing them with a roof top cargo box. The issue with our cars is that the bar spread is only 20" and the minimum for any roof box is 24". That being said, I think I might try to come up with an adapter to make it work.

Keep you guys updated.

Sorry, I just found this old thread. I've since sold the car and purchased something more practical (4runner). I didn't have any issues with the ski racks on this system at all.

The only issue I had (completely unrealated to these racks) was that the car was terrible in the snow, even with blizzaks, lol.
