Starting the car without the FOB?
Starting the car without the FOB?
Is this possible? I had an incident last night after work with my keys. I was able to use the little key to unlock the door, but from there I had no way to start the car as the FOB was gone....
I had to get a ride home & come back with my spare FOB to get the car home.

I don't think so. As far as I am aware, the electronic part of the FOB is the actual key, the metal (physical key) piece is simply a fallback to unlock the door in a pinch.
If the FOB is out of battery, placing it into its slot should allow it to work.

Yea that should work. Just a heads up OP, putting it into the slot will NOT charge the battery. You have to pop open the fob from the small slits on the slides and replace the battery manually.

If it makes you feel any better, I absolutely hate that damn key fob and push button start too.
Quite frankly, it doesn't matter if you have push button start or a metal keyed ignition, if you lose your keys (fob or otherwise), as was the case with the OP, your car, whether it cost $10K or $300K, ain't going anywhere. Even if you throw the owners manual at it in frustration, it won't start until you get/find the key.
Quite true, and just to be clear, I wasn't commenting directly about you specifically. I made a retort to the post about owners manuals, as I share a keen frustration about their complete and utter obscurity within the general populace. To me, it's just absolutely puzzling how someone can spend 30, 40, 50 thousand dollars on their precious toy, but then won't even take the time to learn how all those features they paid dearly for were intended to be operated.
You better get used to it.
It makes vehicles much harder to steal.
As we transition to IOT (Internet of Things) and the connected car any vehicle stolen can be immediately shut down remotely and tracked as well as make it useless to a thief.

How can someone be upset that there's no easy way to start your car without the key? I applaud all car manufacturers who make this task difficult.
