It seems this segment is poised to be a money maker for a number of brands. A baby C63 AMG for around $50K? I'm willing to listen to that sales pitch.

So after the Detroit Auto-Show they just gone quiet. I'm guessing the reception was not what they had hoped for. They scrapped everything and starting all over.

the 6MT Q50 in Europe runs on a Mercedes 2.2 diesel. I think it's more about Americans not buying manuals.

LoL...when I said what he said I was agreeing with no manual no care. The engine comment was to Tunerz who said the engine would be a Merc engine. But thanx for the heads up on the Merc diesel in europe...did not know that one. The way they have been taking off here for certain companies, wonder why they wont at least offer a Q50d here

Yes, it's been said for a while that the new 3.0L engine is an in-house Nissan/Infiniti design, which I think is good news.

Our say: We’re finding this report very unrealistic, since Infiniti announced they developed their own in-house V6 3.0L twin-turbo engine which will appear on the next-generation Q60 and Q80 four-door coupe. Sure, they’re going to borrow a couple of engines, but they will be the smaller ones 4-bangers for which agreements have been signed and factories built. Either way you look at this story though, it’s RIP VQ37.

New Infiniti Q60 to Get 3.0 and 4.7-Liter Mercedes Engines, Report Says - autoevolution

It's looking to be in the realm of possibility that the new V6 could be a shared platform with the R36 GT-R, which has been confirmed to be going to a hybrid platform. It would make a lot of sense to do that from a cost perspective and sharing parts. Obviously the GT-R version will be beefed up more than the version for the tamer applications Infiniti would use it for. The current VR38 block is incredibly strong and if they can bring that methodology to the new V6, suddenly the architecture becomes very extensible. Mass manufactured parts for the everything but the GT-R application, which would use forged internals, and stronger iron cylinder liners. I think it'll already be a great platform for modding due to factory turbos and all of the possibilities that they offer. But swapping in some forged internals opens up another level of performance. Pure guessing and speculation on my part, but it's fun nevertheless!

Found this too...speaking of engines. Now this is off the Q80 Concept, but the application could be feasable in a Q60

"Hybrid Moments
A front-mounted, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter direct-injected V-6 gasoline engine mated to an electric motor of unspecified output combine to produce 550 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque funneled through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Infiniti is claiming sub-four-second 0-to-60-mph times and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Exhaust gases are exhaled through stainless-steel tubing and exit via quad tailpipes integrated into the rear splitter. Twenty-two-inch milled-aluminum wheels sit at the corners. Capable of switching from rear- to all-wheel drive on demand or as conditions dictate, the Q80 Inspiration, per its maker, returns 43 mpg overall on what we assume is the highly optimistic European test cycle. The twin-turbo gas powerplant previews a new family of engines that will start to appear in Infiniti products within the next two years."

Although Nissan and Mercedes are in bed together with their partnerships....

Nissan is not stupid. Everyone is bringing twin turbo 3.0L's . Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes. It is the perfect engine size. 500cc's spread out thru 6 cylinders.

But you cant be foolish enough to think that Nissan's engines will not be WAYYY more bad *** than everyone elses. That's why they are taking their very sweet time, because it has to be perfect. Being late to the party is fine, just as long as you come in with the cavalry.

Exactly! Nissan/Infiniti has delayed the Q60, but I feel it is all because they wanted to get the design and 3.0 turbo engine right! They nailed the design, so as long as the engine delivers, it will be my next car! I agree, if your going to show up late to the party, make sure you shut it down when you arrive!
