Although I do think it's odd to see these cars so modified, including debagding the brand itself, versus some striping or gold emblems. I assume the dealers know their markets.

 

You guys can't be serious.

A dealership doing mods like plastidip, debadging etc. to their new vehicles is just ghetto and I don't know how infiniti is ok with this practice. This hurts the image of the brand too much especially a brand which is trying to be a luxury one.

Can you imagine a Lexus or Mercedes dealer doing this? They would have been warned.

 

Idk about plastidip but dealerships customize their inventory all the time. It makes them more income and Inifniti and the other Manufacturers don't care. They honestly don't care how much a dealership makes or loses on the sales of cars. All they care about is how many more units can be sold this Sept over Last and this over last year.

If they cared, those dealerships down south that love to replace the chrome emblems with Gold ones and add "Limited" "Special Edition" etc badges would be out of business. Cracks me up when some one says they have a "Special Edition " G37 that they want more on trade because of the pin stripe that was on it and paid more for it.

We did 2 Q50s with Vinyl. At the end of the day the service was given away. The customers thought it looked good but didn't care if it was factory or not. All they cared about was the final price of the car. Cost us $200 to do each car. Will we do more? Nope. Will we sell it or include it for a customer to make or wants to work it into a deal if they pay for it? 100%. And so will the Chevy store across the street and the Audi dealership down the road.

 

Well, I certainly never said I was good with dealerships doing this, rather I called it "odd". But, I don't think this one, with the wheels left stock, looks ghetto at all. Oh, and I'm pretty sure dealership aren't using plasti for this work.

 

I could almost guarantee it's veneer. They could take a quality piece of maple stock and get a ton of veneers out of it as they're almost paper thin. Usually one to two mils. It's not super flamey that's for sure and it's not a consistent pattern which is often had with "photoflame" or fake flamed maple where it's just a print on top of the wood and then cleared over with a poly finish. if you see a lot of repetition of pattern, then it's probably a photoflame.

Here's a veneer I was using to test stains for a guitar I was building, it's on the left and there's a crack you can see at the top of the photo. Shows you how thin it is. Actual guitar top is on the right obviously, and it's a slightly different flame pattern.

 

I'm going to have to look closer at different cars and see if I notice a difference. Good information to know.

 

Drove the new coupe, the 300hp awd. Nice car, nice updates etc. I feel my 08 G37 shifts quicker and feels faster. I have 78K miles on it. No problems. Just brakes, rotors and tires. I was seeking into something different for a change. I was looking at used certified 2016 Audi S5 premium plus cars with 10K here and there at 49K-53K. 6 years/ 70K miles warranty. Turbocharged, Dual Clutch, AWD, 333 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque. The power feels there all the time. What you guys think?

 

sounds like a pretty safe bet on that audi. only choice left is if u want something brand new and different or something thats been around for awhile lol

 

Was thinking m2 lol, but that's all performance. I found one from 2013 from an Audi dealer with 12K miles on it, and they want 38K for it. Wouldn't mind that C43 coupe coming out 362 hp with 384 lb-ft torque.

 

There's a guy on the Q50 forum stating the same. How his 3.7 Q was faster than the 3.0T Q loner. He had one of those do-hickey gadget that tested acceleration. He claimed the 3.7 was .2 seconds faster. 4.5 compared to 4.7 on the 0-60.

 

Audi's are no better (actually worse) long term reliability than BMW's, and are pretty much about the most expensive to work on. As they say, the only way to own a German car is under warranty or lease. If you are up to the challenge of having to deal with things, make sure you get an extended warranty. Lastly, don't turn into an Audi douche driver.

 

If stock, I doubt he got 4.5 out of a 3.7 Q

 

One thing these German cars all have in common. Turbos.

Just like the GT-R. Which suffers from overheating, Transmission issues and oil consumption.

Wait a few more years, you'll see things popping up with Nissan's new 3.0T as people start noticing and reporting problems.

 

Well all things being equal I still think a Japanese car is and will be more reliable than a German car. The German car may be a lot more fun to drive though.

 

WOW. I thought the S5 was a reliable car. The car comes with 7 year warranty or 70,000 miles. For sure the 08 g37 5 speed automatic for me shifts much faster than the new coupe. I drove the Audi, like it more than the 440Xi. Feels like the power is always there.
