G37x or G37xS

Hello everyone. I've been checking out this site since I took an 09 G37x for a test ride. Seems like a really nice forum. I really enjoyed the smooth power and all of the nice features. I'm coming from a mostly German car back ground (GTIs/TT) which I've enjoyed but I want something different. Now that I'm looking I thought I'd ask some questions to maybe narrow things down.

Probably looking for 2010 - 2012 auto w/nav

First, I need the x since I live in the northeast and not getting to work isn't an option. I liked the way the 09 rode. Does the xS ride much rougher than the non-S.

I like the front of the S a little more than the non-S. I also like the lumbar support on the seats.

If I purchased a non-S I would probably do the brake upgrade and eventually wheels.

Are there any other glaring differences between the two trim levels? Really looking forward to purchasing a G.

Also, is red the scarcest color? I'm not seeing many of them in my search. Thank you in advance.

There's really no reason not to get an S unless you like a super soft boat-like suspension and seats that lets you slide in them. With S trim you will get what I think are superb sport seats, VLSD, better brakes (although xS sedans get stock brakes), bigger wheels, stiffer sway bars, tighter suspension, sports bumper and something else I may be forgetting. That's a lot of things for not a lot of money.

I would definitely get the xS. I assume you're thinking about the coupe as this is in the coupe forum? I have a 2013 xS coupe and I'm really glad I went with the sport model. I love the brakes, paddle shifters, seats, bigger rims and the suspension upgrades. The right is still very luxurious and I'm driving the car year around in Calgary, Alberta.

Thank you both for the feedback. Just what I was looking for. Yes, I am definitely looking at coupes only.

I didn't realize the seats were completely different, thought it was just the extendible thigh support (btw is the drivers side thigh support part of the seat memory function?)

Serega 13 do you use dedicated snow tires up there? I have used dedicated snow tires/wheels on all of my previous cars with great success but it may be a little while before I can shell out money for a new set for the G.

Again, thank you!

We had a bit of snow last winter and had no trouble getting around with the OEM Yokogawa’s. I am now sporting Michelin Pilot A/S’s, which should be better.

Yes on the x if you live in an area with a bit of snow. Ditto on the previous poster’s comments on S vs. non-S.

I used to have dedicated snow tires but they wore out, now I'm looking to get another set but I have summer tires while most if not all x models will come with all seasons which should be good enough for winter use.

The sport seats are completely different. They have significantly more side bolstering. No, the thigh support is not part of the memory.

The xS coupe also has the faster ratio steering.

The steering, brakes, seats and stiffer suspension on the S are totally worth any incremental price difference.

Oh no the XS already has upgraded sway's? I just ordered the Hotchkis ones for mine am I not really going to see any difference now? I only thought the springs were stiffer on XS didn't realize everything was changed.

Hotchkis are thicker and overall better than sport sways although they need more maintenance (lubrication) so you are fine if you are looking for a very firm easy to control ride.

Yes the Hotchkiss sways are the the way to go and you will notice and immediate positive difference in how little lean the car has when turning briskly. Also the car will go where you point it right now and not wait until the lean starts. I've also found that the grease will probably last for around a year before you have to re-grease them. Luckily they've built in some grease fittings into the sway bar brackets and the job doesn't require any removal of the bar to grease them. Remember to wear gloves while doing this because the grease is very sticky/messy if done by hand. Great upgrade for any Infinity.

Keep it coming. Loving the info! I'm convinced and will narrow my search to the S'. Any difference in exhaust systems?

Also any particular issues to look out for regarding the S?

Sorry for all the newbie questions but I truly love cars and enjoy the learning process as much as the purchase.

I chose the XS for a few reasons over the X. The biggest was the limited slip rear differential. I run yokahama all seasons and the car is just fine in the snow.

I found a 2011 G37x but I see it has the sport seats, paddle shifters, bigger brakes, 19" factory wheels, sport front bumper but it has no S badging. Was there a "sport" package that could be added to an X? And if so what would it be missing? Not the LSD?!

Maybe it was debadged?

I would think the LSD and steering rack wouldn't really be practical to swap out.
