Exclamation Battery died and now...

So the other night I parked my car and upon closing the door the headlights didn't automatically turn off. I figured maybe the timer had changed so without even looking back I went inside a store for about an hour. When I came out, the battery was clearly dead, but my headlights and tail lights were blinking repeatedly together . I popped the hood to jump, and noticed the battery was making a weird clicking noise!

Now that the battery has had plenty of time to charge, I noticed my seat memory buttons dont work! When I click them the lights dont light up, not even pressing the SET button. However, option 2 has started working now but I can not set 1 or even change 2 the others dont work period.

And finally, my power windows work fine but I noticed when I open the drivers side door the window no longer goes down a little and back up like it use to. In fact, I think my car isnt recognizing that I open the door because when I turn off my car and open the drivers door the interior lights dim down after a couple of seconds as if the door was closed! Also it no longer makes that locking click noise behind the steering wheel like it use to when I turned off my car and open the door. If I open the passengers side door though the interior lights stay on and it does make the locking noise on the steering wheel.

Is there any way to reset this? Will unplugging the battery for a while possibly fix it? Help guys

How old is the battery? These cars get real testy when the battery is anything less than optimum. Being that the battery was almost fully discharged when you jump started the car, many of the sub-systems might be in a bad "mood." Most of the symptoms you mention are tied to the BCM, but I doubt that is to fully blame. The clicking noise from the battery was likely your headlight relay struggling from the low voltage.

I'd disconnect the battery fully and take it to get tested (I'd keep the battery disconnected for at least for a few hours.) Assuming the battery tests fine or needs replacement, upon reinstalling the battery most of the systems should reset on their own with exception to the power windows.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks! Great idea I will go get the battery checked out first, and hopefully leaving it unplugged for a while will reset everything. How can I fix the power windows once I put the battery back in?

Engine running , door closed:

Press AND hold window button DOWN for about 3 seconds;
Release;
Press AND hold window button UP for about 3 seconds;
Release;
Repeat for other window.

Works for me every time!

Good luck. Let us know the result.

I had a similar issue a week ago. mine is a 2013 vert. we didnt leave our lights on but when we came back to the car everything appeared to be normal but when i pushed the start button there are a click and nothing. i called roadside assistance and they were sending someone out. before they got there i started to hear a faint beeping noise then got louder and next the red engine light started to flash so i gave it a try and it started right up. I took it immediately to the dealer and they couldnt find anything but my cable on the battery was very loose. battery tested fine. by doing this it reset everything including the ECU. Same thing with the windows and such. They told me to roll the windows down all the way and hold the window button down for a few seconds and then roll it all the way up and do the same thing. works fine now. They just tightened my cable and no issues since then.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but when I do this, I do exactly what has been said here, BUT, make sure you wait the 3 seconds AFTER the window is rolled all the way down/up before releasing.

Early on I had my battery die 3 times, so I purchased a powerall. Check it out online, they are a battery pack and go for around $100.00. Walmart sells a Jump&Go for around $59.00. I bought one for my daughter for Christmas. The good thing about both of these battery packs is that they fit in the glove box of your car. They charge, cell phones, laptops, etc. and they only have to be charged once a year to keep them operational. One note, after purchasing, I have not had to use it once on my car, but did jump a 400+ HP Corvette.

As I mentioned in another post, the auto headlight switch is an electro-mechanical device, and they fail.

There were a few last winter in my work parking lot which failed. On a couple of them I told the dudes their lights were on when they were walking away from their car. The same old response – oh they will turn off by themselves.

I smiled at them when I walked passed them while they were getting a jump at lunchtime.

I agree with CoolBreeze totally. I never use the "Auto" function as anything that's automatic has potential for failure.

It's not that hard to turn the lights On/Off manually. Takes what, a couple of milliseconds?

Yeah I don't use them either but it's a PITA though the auto function is before the on function on the switch. Every other car maker I dealt with had the auto the opposite direction or the last position after on. The G design is just dumb...

…and the first one of the season. The auto headlight switch got stuck in the on position for a dude at work, and he now has a dead battery.

It would not take a jump and he just got towed.
