Clicking noise from driver rear

Hi Everyone!

I am new here...I have a question regarding my car. I notice that there is a clicking noise coming from my driver rear with my window down. This clicking noise can be heard almost at all speeds. I thought it was a little pebble stuck between the rotor and the back plate so I tried using a screw driver to poke the back plate hoping something falls out, nothing fell out. The clicking noise did stop and then it comes back again after a little bit. One thing I also noticed is going over bumps once in a while, I hear a scrape sound despite my car being a stock X meaning high ground clearance...

Another thing, the clicking noise comes and goes...

Please advise...=(

Thanks!

Hello, welcome to the forum, originally, I was going to suggest that the clicking is coming from an aftermarket coilover, like BC. However, it sounds like you're still on stock X height. It's possible that your rear driver strut has blown, but you would probably be able to tell from poking around there with a screwdriver. However, for posterity, do you notice any oil, or an exceptionally dirty strut back there?

When the oil leaks out of the strut, it attracts dirt and road debris that would otherwise bounce off.

Thanks for your reply.

I have not taken the wheel off to check yet, but will do...Thought I come here for some suggestions first based off of the symptoms I described. I searched around different forums this morning and it does seem to be a strut problem, would you know how much it would cost to change that?

I think it varies depending on what part of the country you're in. The labor should be less than an hour, there's probably 8 bolts total that they need to remove to swap out the strut.

I was actually thinking the same thing. I also have a 2002 Toyota Tundra that I was hearing clicking out of the front left but could never figure it out until I had all my front struts replaced. Once that was done the truck was as quiet as could be. I would have never thought of that and always thought it was related to the brakes.

Some cars and brake kits have brake pad wear indicators that make noises like the one you've described. I would make sure the brakes are not worn down.

Not on this platform, but on the old V35 platform instead, I had to take my old G coupe in to get a TSB performed on the rear axle that had symptoms of constant clicks. You might check out the axle and differential while you are troubleshooting.

Rear driver metal clicking noise at 15+

I recently noticed a similar noise coming from drivers rear wheel area on my G37 coupe it sounds like metal on metal contact and it seems like the car has to be traveling 15mph+ to be able to hear it and it appears to make the noise every time the tire spins completely , I removed my wheel and made sure it wasn't coming from my rotors or brakes I don't have any leaks cars at 72k miles if anyone else has this problem or may know what it is please help thank you

Is it possible that you ran over a nail, and it's hitting the ground once per revolution creating a ticking sound?

How would a pebble scraping your rotor cause a clicking sound..?

Hi Everyone.

So this clicking problem was sort of resolved quite a while ago...The scrape sound was actually a different issue, the plastic cover for changing the oil was flapping loose; had to cut it off. I took the rear brakes apart and applied some lubricant because it was squealing too...the clicking seemed to have stopped after that but then I hear it again several times so it's probably just stupid pebbles stuck in the tires...
