A redline a day keeps the carbon away

Found this on fb. Any thoughts? Some have also replaced carbon with mechanic... I normally do a 4th gear pull from 2K to redline once a week. If u redline, how do you do it and in which gear?

I have heard it is good to shift at higher RPMs occasionally, a lady who had an 03 Maxima with 230,000 miles said that it was because she shifts at higher RPM's, (it was manual) and my master tech agreed, but not sure if he meant it or if he was just saying that because she was a customer we were trying to sell a car to.

I try not to, just because I have not heard this from a mechanic (other than the one I stated before, but not sure of his intentions) or someone who really knows engines, I've only heard it as opinion. But I have always wondered since then, would like to have some other input on this subject from people who know.

It does kind of make sense

I used to believe in this until I talked with a coworker who has built many cars and also whose brother owns a motorcycle shop. I asked him if this saying was true or if Seafoam made a difference or was necessary. He said not at all to neither the redline nor the Seafoam. Neither would do much in terms of carbon removal in modern engines, it was only back in the day that this worked. With that being said, I touch redline for a second every time I get on the entrance ramp .

Sea foam is HORRIBLE and won't recommend ANYONE to use it.... Terrible personal experiences so I'm extremely biased against it..

I down shift on the freeway for "spirited driving". Say 6th down to 4th and then hammer it for a few seconds. Is 80 bad for fourth gear? Ah, I have a warranty. LOL

Every day, for me a car that cant handle hard driving is not worth it. This cars can be driven hard and can take it. Enjoy it once in a while, its a boring and uncomfortable car to drive slow (IMO). For that buy a lexus or something that drives on a cloud. Have fun and be safe!

I prefer driving my 5AT in manual mode and I regularly shift at 4500-5500 probably 90% of the time in 1/2/3. Its not good for MPG, but she screams like she loves it

factory wouldnt set it to 7500 if it couldnt handle it. hell even 8k is fine.

I never heard about this idea before. I only punch it really getting on the freeway as well but I dont think I come close to redline. I don't really know though cuz I shift by the sound of the engine and not by looking at my RPMs...thats how my dad taught me.

I also dont trust seafoam in the least...I would NEVER use that crap in any of my cars
