Wow, I would have though this crowd would push their cars harder. Perhaps it's a 6mt thing (easier to control your RPM). Anyway, red line (>7000rpm) multiple times a week. Virtually every time I drive i break 5k at some point. Perhaps this is why I average 15 mpg...

I had a Audi tech tell me to redline my V8 S5 to prevent carbon build up. IT would get so bad I would have to have the valves cleaned every 15k miles.
Not really worried about it as much with the G, but like the post below, I hit redline just about every day is manual mode with the 7 at. If I'm feeling real frisky I'll hit redline a few shifts in a row.
You all need to get out of here with that 5k crap. Drive your cars!

I redline first and/or second whenever I have adequate space in front of me, which equates to probably a dozen or so times a day. Average mpg is around 13.

+1 and I have an AT... Im revvin up a couple times daily- particularly when Im on a ramp. The opportunities come few and far between in traffic so I take advantage of them when I can.
I noticed in a post, someone mentioned deadpan doesn't work. I recently used it & did notice a little increase in MPG's which could be because of other factors & my techs that I work with have recommended it but...
If seafoam or other additives don't work, does anyone think that an octane booster a) does increase octane & b) may clean out some of the build up do to the hotter temps?
I avg (mixed) between 21 & 23 mpg. So I must be doing well then. The octane booster does not work...period. It does not boost octane and it does not "clean" valves or injectors. I read an article that tested several of those boosters and it found that there was no benefit from using any of those products. I think one did boost octane by 1 (not worth the money) and that was it. So save your loot for something worthwhile...like a tank of race fuel! LoL
