If those Nissan dealers service 370z's then they're full of **** about not doing or being capable of OP tests.

Shops laughing about infiniti master techs (on g35 driver) and tangible, proven evidence (pictures, gasket part number updates, etc) that says otherwise about this paper gallery gasket issue? Then I'd write them off quickly as it doesn't sound like anyone I'd want touching my car; I like having a mechanic not afraid to say 'I don't know' and listens, will do further research, and appreciates the concise information I can provide him so he better understands the platform.

Well, I was asking Nissan not about the OP test, but getting an estimate for the repair if it happens, to see if it would be cheaper than 4200. But before I could even ask them if they could simply change out the gaskets instead of ordering all those unnecessary parts and driving up labor costs as infiniti has quoted me, they just said they'd refer me back to infiniti. I know one more guy that is Nissan certified and now owns his own shop, haven't gotten a quote yet from him but he was pretty down to earth. Actually before I knew what I know now about the repair, he told me that if infiniti quoted 4200 then for him it would be 2600. I just hope if I ever need it, that it's done right, and affordably. NOBODY should have to pay 4200 for this mess. Back when I had Dodges, the dealer would always work with me if something was costly, find the most affordable way to get the job done, or even people would offer to do it on the side if they had the time, but so far I've encountered some obstacles. maybe I can get lucky like maxximase and consumer affairs would help me.

Baytown Nissan was about $3K including changing all of the timing parts while they were in there. They've got at least one very experienced tech who knows his stuff. However, if you are not having problems or codes, why are you even getting estimates to repair a problem you don't even have?

I found a guy in Austin that routinely works on Z's, and he's quite familiar with the job stating that he can get it done without ordering the rear cover and all the extra stuff infiniti quoted. He also quoted me at about a fifth of the cost infiniti would charge. So now I'll be checking my oil pressure until "it's time"

Mine is just starting to seep as they put it I can see the crappy rubber seal the put on there.
I think this is only time I'm glad I bought a extended warranty for the car.
They gave me a pretty killer deal on it otherwise I would have turned it down.
next oil change i'm going to ask for it to be replaced and see what they say..
glad you have a dealership you trust black betty I don't trust mine at all!
hell the last guy couldn't even rotate my tires saying they were different sizes..i had to take him around to each tire and him it read it out loud they he goes my bad!

The Infiniti dealership techs didn't inspire confidence. There's one tech who is a race team mechanic in his time off that works at the Nissan dealership where I took it. He's the only one I trust.

So before I take a dive, did they fix this problem on the 2015 model?

^ It seems that the gallery gaskets were revised in late 2011, so it would stand to reason that cars made in 2012 and up were fitted with the metallic composition gaskets rather than problematic paper based one's seen as culprits throughout this thread.

There was a thread here which outlined the production dates with the updated gasket. For the life of me I can't find it - that's what happens when you're subscribed to 10 million threads. Anyone save the link to that post/thread?

Two pages back, Ryne posted the info I believe you're referencing...

I think it was also brought up over on the g35driver thread that an Infiniti tech started. I could be wrong about that though.

I had the gasket failure on my 2008 G37S coupe. Mine started with engine pinging around 1800 RPM from a start. After them misdiagnosing for over a 1-1/2 years, including test drive with Infiniti Tech hooking up laptop, I went to another dealer who discovered the gasket problem right away. The work was done at 105,000 miles back in September 2014. Had to use Consumer Affairs to get repair covered since I clearly demonstrated reporting the problem before 100,000 miles warranty expired. The work was list as "install new rear timing cover gaskets (vehicle has low oil pressure, internal timing cover oil leak), cost $2,355.10."

Parts on invoice included (may have typing errors):
SEAL O RING (20.8MM) - 15066-ZL80C
SEAL O RING (27.7MM) - 15066-ZL80D
SEAL-OIL, CRANKSHAFT - 13510-31U10
GASKET SOLENOID-23797-EY01A
GASKET SOLENOID-23797-JA10B
THREEBOND 1217F GASK-999MP-1217FPP
LONG LIFE ANTIFREEZE-999MP-AF000P
GASKET OIL GALLERY-13533-JK21A
GASKET-FRONT COVER,L-13533-JK21B
WASHER DRAIN-11026-JA00A
OIL FILTER-15208-65FOE
5W30 MOBIL OIL

Few months after this repair got code P0011 code and car went into limp mode, but would loose engine power over 1800 RPM. Problem was "INTERNAL FAILURE of BANK 1 TIMING SPROCKET - BANK 1 TIMING SPROCKET GETING STUCK WHEN RETURNING TO ZERO." This problem also affected the limp mode performance. This was my expense replacing the same gasket above plus more with both sprockets at total cost around $3K. Guess they recovered their cost on the warranty work. Can't help but wonder if the low oil pressure affected the timing sprocket since the pinging was happening for over a year.
