6mt is still better if your the type that likes to have control of your car. I have the paddle shifters on my car and maybe use it once ? I live in nyc so the drive when i hit traffic would drive me nuts that why i got the car in auto.

Are paddle shifters plug and play for an AT7? Do you have to put it in Sport shift mode to use them?

No, you can downshift any time even in regular D mode. 2 clicks of the left paddle and mash on the gas.

The DS mode just holds each gear longer before shifting. Great for merging onto the highway from a stop sign which is frustratingly common in NY...

Yrag, you are so right about that. I remember when I had a stick i focused on driving but with auto it's so easy to get distracted, texting, on the phone, coffee etc. Early model German and Japanese cars didnt have cup holders but when their auto designers were told to add cup holders they were like Why? And they were told that the Americans drink coffee and soda while driving and they were like What!! But since we Americans are a huge and well heeled market, they had to start adding coffee cup holders, vanity mirrors etc.

On cars like the G37, one is a marketing gimmick, and the other is an actual transmission. You have to step a few notches over the the G37 to where a semi-automatic is something other than pointless.

But that's just my opinion, and you very specifically asked for opinions.
