Anyone cross shop the g37x with the evo?
I'm in the market for a newer car. Currently in the Midwest with a fwd car and want something nicer and awd. My current car is a 400+whp civic, so I wanted my next car to retain some fun aspects, as well as have the future potential for 450+ whp tuning.
Initially I was set on an evo or sti, and then settled on the evo. I test drove one and was a little disappointed - not very quick, interior worse than my civic, and kind of expensive given it was a 2008.
I was thinking of how much I always wanted a 370z when it just struck me that the g37 comes with an available awd. It's also much nicer, which is somewhat important to me as I'd like to project a more professional image at work with boss\clients. Best of all, Infiniti apparently has terrible resale because I see a bunch of ~2011 g37s for low 20 thousands, cheaper than older evos. Anyone think the g37 is a suitable competitor to the evo, even given that it wasn't designed to be?

I don't think any G37 is comparable to an Evo. The Evo is a rally car, and the G37x is most decidedly not.
You *can* boost a g37 to over 400 hp, but it requires a significant investment (>10k).

I realize the evo is a rally car, but very, very few people buy it to actually rally race. They buy it because it's awd, quick, and fun to mod. I'm just wondering if I can get a similar experience from the g. I spent ~8 grand boosting my civic so I'm not unrealistic in regard to what it takes and costs to boost a non-boosted vehicle from the factory.
unfortunately I don't think you can give me the price I'm looking to pay.

The evo is a kid's car.
Nothing wrong with being a kid (or driving a kid's car) but it doesn't have much (anything?) in common with the G37.
I can just imagine pulling up to the Ritz Carlton with that wing; they'd think I was a new employee who didn't know where to park...

Wouldn't even think of crossing those either . The G is a luxury car with some WHP pontential . Not a lot maybe 330 WHP full bolted and tuned . The EVO's ceiling is a lot higher but really can't compare . Ride comfort an just overal look of the car "classy "
Really nothing wrong if you want a EVO heck I had 2 one was a 11 sec car. But the ride , the nonsense from other cars chasing and wanting to race or the crap I would get from the police following me around . I just moved on. The G can be made very fast ( had mine at 457 WHP )!but very pricey and if something brakes ( motor) VERY exspensive to fix .

I'm trying to figure how much it would cost to shave 1,000 lbs from the G...
Some of the things that the guy removed were pretty extreme, like the air conditioning system, but I guess he thought it was worth it. He removed much of the things that made the Lexus a luxury car, and you could do something similar if you wanted.

I literally just started looking at g37s today, but I think I'm more in the market for a ~2011 model as I don't think I can afford a brand new one.
read: similar. I want something awd, handles well and can be made fast. I realize the evo and g37 are different cars marketed at different crowds, but you can't ignore the fact that they're they're similarly priced, similarly powered, and both awd (if you spring for that). I also realize it could cost me 8 grand to get to the power levels I eventually want. I don't care about that, as I previously mentioned i spent a similar amount doing the same to my civic. I'm just wondering out of the box the g can give me a similar experience as the eco would.

OP... Regarding the first post, the Evo has a Much better resale value but will require more maintenance, especially the older models. The Evo is also a much better purchase if you're interested in performance. The interior is a little juvenile compared to the G37. The G37 is the better daily and is more comfortable.
